1-0 FT. Poor. Really lost our way in the second half and made far too many sloppy passes. Too many second string players and tired legs, in my opinion.
im not too disappointed...its a different mentality in the league...you can tell there is a different kind of focus in the league games.
Don't shoot me down fellow yids but I'm totally fine with this result. Poch was right to rotate and rest some tired legs, give some of the fringe players some time and assess our options. We're simply not strong enough yet to expect to fight on three fronts. With our current PL position, we have to give all to the league this year. The FA Cup could have been our undoing if we got bogged down with injuries or tired players. Now with just Europe and the PL to focus on, we know that our run in will be far less congested and can give it everything. Let Ade and his Palace teammates have their day but they won't win the FA Cup. It's a small meaningless victory. Bigger prizes are to be had for us if we focus.
It is so important we win on Thursday now (or just get through). The pessimist in me (well most Spurs fans are understandably) agrees with Moorpheus that this could be the start of a downward spiral. Get through Thursday and win on the weekend and then this result doesn't look so bad. Right now I'm gutted though. Really thought we had a good chance this year in the cup.
I agree, feel really disapointed now (especially as my boss is a Palace fan), but if we win on Thurday and get momentum going again, then not the end of the world. Still a lot of good teams in FA Cup so better to go out now, than lose in the final for example.. Europa is different as every result gets more coefficient points, so making progress isn't for nothing.
What do we do if we qualify for the champions league next year, pack it in because of the league? I would much rather us try and win something, one my first spurs memories was watching us win the F.A cup, 25 years ago ffs.
Why the negativity? For most of this season, when we've lost a game, we've refocused and gone on a long unbeaten run! If anything, this is the best time to lose a match and remind the players, nothing is certain. We still have work to do and the players will know they need to stay in the zone if we're going to achieve what was the unthinkable 6 months ago. It's one defeat by one goal where on another day, we could have scored two but for the post and poor finishing from a youngster. You're acting like the wheels just came off!
Agreed PNP. Although we had the likes of dier, dembele and Kane playing today, dier was out of position, Eriksen and dembele only had a half, and we missed Toby. For me, it still feels like when 2 or 3 changes are made to our "best 11", we look like a different team. Bentaleb was awful today. He looks like he's been left behind. Still, as others have said, going out isn't necessarily a bad thing with our fixture schedule. Good luck to palace.
Winning is a habit though. By the time you play Swansea, you will have played 3 games since your last league game - at least four and a half hours of extra football - and so far with no wins. It's a disadvantage compared to Leicester who will have had a fortnight's rest. The only time playing twice a week every week has proved to be an advantage is when teams get on a roll (like Utd's treble season). I don't think it's so easy to change some personnel and drop the level of performance and intensity for interim games in other competitions and then suddenly switch it back on for the PL.
On way home...thought we were good in first half and a bit unlucky but run out of steam and ideas at the end. The ref allowed constant fouling by Palace which and early yellow or 2 would have prevented. Thought Palace played like Leicester did at our place...niggley fouls, defending deep and hitting us on the break. Didn't realise Palace hoofed the ball so much...thought they were a passing team. Bentaleb was poor, especially his passing. Think Walker and Rose were below par and the kane was average. Not being critical cos these results happen but hope it a sign that we are about to become more spursy!
Just got back from the match. Bit of a weird atmosphere if I'm honest. Palace fans made a lot of noise and as much as I hate to admit it some of their songs are top quality. I agree with the general consensus on here - today is proof that we aren't quite good enough to compete on all 3 fronts. And there's nothing to be ashamed of in that as only the likes of Barca and Bayern win trebles with anything resembling regularity. I was very impressed with Onomah today. Always busy and very composed and confident on the ball - his decision making let him down at times but that will improve with experience. Bentaleb looked as confused as he did against Leicester in the 3rd round. I don't think it's down to any lack of ability rather he doesn't quite 'get' Poch's definition of a DM and we were caught in possession far too often as a result. I agree with Roo in the sense that he could well be the new Jenas - clearly a good player but picked up a series of injuries at precisely the time that the team was making huge strides in the right direction and now looks like he could be left along the wayside. Eriksen again baffled me. For a player of such talent his corners are unforgivably bad and he gave the ball away more than I could count. He's been out of sorts all season and I'll stick my neck out and say it but if a big bid came in for him in the summer I wouldn't lose any sleep if we let him leave. I'd love to give Lamela a run in the #10 position with Son and Alli either side. Walker again reminded us all why he will never, ever be a top class RB. So many brainless decisions every game and again - a player who I wouldn't mind seeing the back of come the summer. Rose by contrast had another brilliant game, aside for some slack positioning for their goal. I've seen nothing this season to suggest that we'll now unravel. We didn't play too badly at all today and with some luck probably would've scraped a win. If anything, every loss this season has seen us come back stronger than before and I fully expect that to be the case now too.
The bottle job begins... Blame haig some very tired looking legs out there for you today, could be a blessing that you went out with that in mind.
Just got back and a bit disappointed because we are better than that. Let's not forget we hit the post several times too! Never seen a Spurs team (maybe no team) hit the ball out of play so much into touch, passing was very bad today. Still, if the side without any ambition deserved to win then I guess that's the nature of the game. Not the way I'd ever want my team to play. Their fans were in good voice, but not sure what they've got against Mullery, that showed poor respect.
I was simply speculating that this could be the beginning of #bottlejobgate reading you post i can see you also fear this happening
Bit annoying that we would have had Reading - oh what might have been! Pleased to hear from here that nothing untoward happening with Lamela though.
