He looked a bit nervous v Brighton but nearly scored anyway before he got injured but he looked quick in that game too. There were comments on here about H Mag being as slow as a carthorse and writing him off, goes to show how off the mark people can be sometimes. Hopefully he gets a full pre-season then shows what he can do next year and there's still time for him to have an impact this year in a strong team unit
If you say so. It looked to me like he out muscled him but who can trust a feed from the other side of the world.
Haha I know. To be honest it seemed more his physicality that got him past kos but I guess we all see it differently.
The Zak certainly had blinder alright, but like anyone else,he can only really be judged by a full season in someone's first team. Unfortunately, I cannot see that happening here unless McGregor starts cra pping himself again and/or goes to peices. Overall a good, stress free day out in a game we might have actually pinched if Aluko had not froze in front of goal, but then he usually does, Back to the future Tuesday. Allam OUT.
It was an heroic defensive display but if we want to progress we'll need to show more of what we did in the last 10 minutes and hold the ball more and offer more of a counter threat. I don't see us getting through another game like that one with Jak making saves all the time and Arsenal generally poor in front of goal. I wasn't expecting anything anyway, and don't really in the second game, so it's all a bonus if we get through to the quarters. I assume there aren't more replays now and it goes to extra time and penalties.
Ticker started jumping a bit when we finally lost the respect and actually threw causing to the wind. Probably under orders to keep it tight and then go for it if were in with a sniff with ten minutes to go.
Only just watched the highlights. I know we're not allowed to say it but how one sided was that? They didn't even show Alukos chance which was probably the best chance of the game and would have been a massive deal if he'd scored it. Can't work out the logic in leaving that out. The commentator (Motson?) was talking like an Arsenal fan. Doesn't bother me but I just found that coverage absolutely bizarre.
What was even more bizarre is that when Welbeck dived to try win a penalty, Motson commented: "Welbeck perhaps dived just a little too late" What?! Like it's OK for Arsenal to dive now? Why did the ref not punish it with a yellow card? there was even less contact than Maguire's. Welbeck also got a freekick in the middle of the pitch against Maguire and was barely even touch - consistency? It was even worse when Flamini hacked Powell down and the ref waved play on!
Motson sadly lost touch with the game years ago. You wouldn't think he and Martin Tyler are the same age - one does highlights for games inside the M25 (often badly) and the other covering the biggest game each weekend live.
Of course they dominated the game, they fielded, then subbed on full top of the tree internationals. Fact is though, they weren't good enough to beat us. Our B team. With 3 of our players looking out of sorts play wise too. We could have scored too. Magnificent performance by us, which will get ignored in the usual top 4 frenzy and speculation about Wenger's future.
Personally thought Maloney had a very tidy game. And Odubajo did fine when he came on , so no problem
You need to look a little harder. He was playing Arsenal, up front, by himself. He worked hard and he set up Aluko with a great ball. His success isn't going to be measured in a 90 minute, backs to the wall spell against one of the best teams in the country, he's nothing like Sagbo.
I thought it was Diomande at the time, then realised it was Huddlestone who had bust a gut to get forward and play the ball in for Aluko. If you watch the highlights, you can see during that passage of play, Elneny wipes Diomande out off the ball and he's down on the floor during that chance - another one the ref failed to notice.
It was Huddlestone that played that pass. Diomande actually reminds me a lot of Sagbo, although it's too early to judge him fully of course. But his best moments seems to be outside the area with the odd bit of strength and the occasional ace through ball. Exactly like Sagbo in that sense.
Yes I agree it was so one sided. Was watching and I thought Motson sounded like a fan trying his hand at commentating. Bit embarrassing tbh. Maybe time for him to stop. Although there aren't that many good commentators anymore. As ex pro's the majority are one sided. I turn the sound down. On another note, Macca is a mighty bearded, ginger haired god.
