Both, with equal respect. My (long forgotten) point being Saints, while not quite being jekyll and hyde, varied a lot in how confident/competent they looked early season. Strangely (I can say this 'cos it isn't the super duper +++ve match thread) I'm not as convinced by recent performances as some seem. I'm pleased with results and our fighting spirit but feel we really need to put away more chances 'early doors'. Like a couple of others on the list I still suffer from 'old SFC pessimism' at times, but I'm slowly getting better my wife says.

FWIW, although I'm seen as some sort of happy-clapper, I suspect, I'm not. I just look to the positives in equal measure to the negatives, and then dismiss the negatives if they aren't totally relevant. I'm a supporter, not an analyst. However, much as I have been impressed with Saints results, I haven't been overly impressed by our performances. 3-5-2 can produce football from a different era, not unlike European style in the 1980's - say, when Koeman was playing! And it doesn't look as impressive as modern tactics, but often gets the job done.
So I would accept that this is more of my interpretation of what constitutes a good performance and what actually is one. Saints winning games 1-0 is still a good result, and by most expert accounts, a good performance too. Guess we'll just have to live with it. :)

We weren't as bad as some think during our 'bad' spell and perhaps not quite as good as some think in the present spell. However, the major change is not letting in the single shot the opposition get...all the difference between losing by a single goal and winning or drawing. Improving our scoring will get us to the next stage, but meanwhile the present system is working pretty well. :)

What we are doing very well lately is stopping the opposition from playing. Our attack, however, is hit and miss.

I thought we were better during our bad spell than we were in the first 3 league games and the euro games.

We've become hard to beat again. That should give us something to build on at least. But yeah, going forward we still haven't really clicked yet. Next Saturday would be a good time to start.
