At the end of the day it's the rub of the green, on balance it worked in our favour this time. Onwards and upwards!
It was a different one and Aluko actually put the ball in the net when he wasn't offside. Kosielny should have gone and Welbeck should have been booked for EXACTLY the same offence as Maguire.
Nothing to knock with City's performance today. Under the cosh for 90 % of the time, they were resolute in their defending, well organized against a very good, fast team. Jak was fantastic. So many of the Arsenal efforts took deflections off last ditch tackles/blocks by City defenders and Jak got to all of them. Outstanding. Despite the need for a replay, it demonstrated the desire/dedication of what was essentially a 2nd string City side, which will boost the whole squad, keeping the "reserves" fit in case of inevitable injuries, but more importantly make every squad member work harder for their future contracts and the promise of Prem League football next season. Credit to Bruce senior for his lineup. Best City performance I've seen this season.
Also the 6th round takes place Sat/Sun 12/13th March That'll give just 4/5 days to arrange the fixture (which the TV companies won't like for starters) tickets, etc
I didn't notice it in the game but there's an interesting photograph on the Sky match report. It shows Arsenal defending at a corner (the corner!!) and I think it's Gibbs whose got a huge handful of Maloney's shirt. Could easily have been a penalty.
Methinks our stiffs enjoyed that today don't you ? Respect to Arsenal massive for telling it how it is,yapping bitter Leicester cone head types on here again..whats all that about ? Allam OUT
Didn't want a replay but frig me, what a performance by us. Jaks had some stick in the past, deservedly, but he was incredible today. Tymon looks the part. Powell looks the part, and as important, up to prove a point. Something to me seems wrong with Elmo, which I hate because he's been one of my favorite players in recent years. Replay not ideal, but our B team just held Arsenal, at the Emirates, against an onslaught at times, that's got to do the entire team no end of good. I'm also more hopeful that we have a squad ready for promotion again, yes it'll need and get tweaks but what a good bunch we have at the mo.
Apparently it's the first time in over a hundred years that we've played Arsenal and kept a clean sheet.
Who can forget David Coleman saying "Don't spoil it for anyone who has just come in by telling them the score as highlights are on later. But before we go let's take another look at Italy's winning goal".
The draw at Chelsea in 1966 was a colossal result for City at the time and before we reached Wembley in the Championship Play -Off Final was one of the clubs finest moments. My point is that we have come a very long way when today our virtual second string, including a 16 year old Hull lad playing in only his second first team game held the FA Cup holders to a draw on their own turf and it's not exactly headline news. More has been said about the replay been of an headache to both clubs then the magnitude of what Steve Bruce and his team pulled off today. But you are right the Chelsea result was probably the best away FA Cup result but today must be up there at number two ?
we drew 2-2 at arsenal in the 1930 semi. the same season we won 2-1 at man city who ended 3rd in the league.
Been a few great away draws in the FA Cup for sure. The after-90 minutes draw at Wembley against The Arse in our first ever FA Cup final has to top them all so far IMO.
Another reminder of just how far the club has come when some turn the noses up at a replay with arguably Londonstan's finest. One can only hope the reply is attended by those who won't boo should the wheels come off a after todays spender rearguard effort. In Bruce you trust.. Allam OUT
