The former Tigers midfielder has claimed that he is still benefiting from a 'gaffe' in the contract he signed when he joined Hull in 2009

Jimmy Bullard has thanked Hull City for 'changing his life' - claiming the club handed him millions of pounds by MISTAKE.

Bullard penned a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Tigers after signing for a club record £5million from Fulham in February 2009

The maverick midfielder, then 32, reckons he was delighted with a ‘blinding’ £40,000-a-week deal his agent agreed with City, who were in their first ever Premier League campaign.

However, in echoes of Seth Johnson’s infamous deal, where Leeds United were rumoured to have handed him twice what he wanted, Bullard reckons he ended up with a more lucrative contract too.

Referring to the Johnson case, Bullard, now 37, said: "A similar thing happened to me at Hull. I was doing my contract with my dad but I had my agent there.

"We had the chat before with the club, he’s obviously gone away to talk to the club, and the contract was £40,000 a week. And I was like ‘yeah, blinding contract, let’s sign it.”

“I’ve gone to sign it, I see on the paperwork it says £50,000. So I’ve passed it under the table to my agent, my agent’s gone: ‘yeah, that’s a misprint, sign it.’”

Bullard, who was speaking on his Magic Sponge football podcast, added: "As I’ve signed it, I blew it dry, and then I read under it as well, another £5000 or £6000 appearance, whatever it was.

"And he’s said: ‘yeah, just sign it, just sign it’, and blew it dry’”

“This club is chucking it away like confetti, that’s a joke. So I was on £55,000 a week from £40,000.

“Amazing contract, amazing. And I’m celebrating to this f***ing day. Thank you Hull City for changing my life. I’m dropping cash everywhere, I’m bleeding cash.”

Media outlets in Hull reported Bullard's wages at between £40,000 and £45,000 a week throughout his injury-hit years at the KC Stadium.

Local football pundits have cast doubt on Bullard's claims and one told the Mirror: "I think he's exaggerating to make a cracking story on his podcast - if he had really been paid more it would have come out by now."

When asked about Hull City fans think of him, he admitted: “They’ve had the hump from day one with me.

“But what do you want, me to tell them? It’s like winning the lottery and going ‘oh no, I don’t want that’. No, you sign it, you blow it dry.”

Magic Sponge co-host, comedian Rob Beckett, added: “And that’s exactly what any one of them would do as them.”

Disaster struck on Bullard’s debut for City, then managed by Phil Brown, when he injured his knee in a collision with West Ham’s Scott Parker.

He ended up on the sidelines for the next eight months and made just 19 starts and 5 sub appearances, scoring 6 goals during his stint with the Tigers, which was cut short after two-and-a-half years.

The East Yorkshire club were eventually relegated after their second top-flight season, racking up debts of around £35million.

Since being taken over by controversial local businessman Assem Allam, the club has enjoyed a second stint in the top flight before dropping back to the Championship.

A spokesman for Hull City said the club was unable to comment.

Which tells you all you need to know about Jimmy Bullard, either it is true, and he's basically a dishonest twat, or it's a lie....and he's basically a dishonest twat.

Basic mistake by the club in not checking the contract, mistake in signing him anyway (but we knew that already).

So according to this he got an extra £10k in wages and an extra £5k appearance bonus.

The extra £10k over 2.5 years is £1.3 million, he made 19 appearances so thats an extra 95k making a total of £1.39 million.

Hardly the megabucks he's making it out to be, he'd have earned about that in 6 months on his £40k contract if the silly **** hadn't got himself sacked.

I don't blame him for taking the money, if some cretin working for us was that incompetent then that's our fault not his, the fact he's bragging about it now shows what a lowlife he is.

He's also claiming we hated him from day one, which is just nonsense.

Didn't he always say he didn't have an agent? I'm sure Ive seen / heard interviews with him when he's said he doesn't understand why footballers have them, they can negotiate their own deals and pocket the agent fees themselves.

And his comment about the fans having 'the hump' with him and 'what would they do? You sign it and blow it dry' shows how widely he's missed the point,. We wouldn't have given a **** how much he earned if he'd behaved like a consummate professional during his time here. What annoyed us were the constant falling out of bars pissed as a ****, fighting with our players in public, getting a taxi from London to training and turning up pissed, hiring hookers on a pre-season tour, leading our captain astray (who was big enough to look after himself, admittedly), booking his op with Dr Steadman before he signed and generally being the most loathsome **** this poster has ever encountered in his life.

Who knows the facts on what the deal was when Bullard's connection with City was formally finished?

    1) Indeed so and 2) Yes he is. Bartlett and Dufferman were worse than a couple of dodgy second hand car dealers called "Honest John's" <laugh>

Bullard is now thankfully history. He also never got what he should have got from that contract either. Just A small blessing though.

Amazing to think that if his contract had been allowed to run, we would have been entering the PL with Bullard still on the books.
