Film called `A Hijacking` puts Tom Hanks and Cpt Phillips film to shame.....its danish but actually half the film in english
"Burnt", I enjoyed very much, good film, I don't go with The rotten veg thingy, usually take advice off family and friends, But you are very right in, "each to their own", ten pairs of Eyes watching the same movie will probably have ten Different opinions......
Thanks for the idea. Found one :- The Idiot (Russian: Идиот) is a costume drama TV series produced by Russia TV Channel in 2003, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel of the same title. The series' script is very close to Dostoevsky's original text, and the series features well-known Russian actors. And found a torrent with eng subs. --- Watched a very unusual film tonight. Robinson in space. A very odd sort of travelogue made in the UK in the 90's. I downloaded it after seeing this distinctive if tiny pic while searching for the above:- It does have a bit about Hull (and KC) near the end. Surprising how old the 90's look already. Don't watch it expecting any action, story or dialogue. Just a dry and often humorous voice over nostalgic stills and short clips from around the country.
Sorry for the delay in replying...site issues I think......I will keep an eye out for "A Hijacking"sounds like my kind of film,I like the down to earth honesty of Scandinavian film usually. On a different note I was recently given a Dutch film called "Admiral" and not knowing what to expect thought the worst(Master and Commander rip off)but was pleasantly suprised.More of a Nederlandish history lesson, with the odd sea battle and Prime Ministers having their crown jewels removed sort of thing. But don't watch it on the strength of Rutger Hauer being a titled actor,it's not really a spoiler to say he doesn't make it past the 10 minute mark...maybe not everyones cup of tea but I enjoyed it.
Gonna start using some of my journalism in these reviews. Day 1 of Kurosawa: Drunken Angel Brief synopsis: A drunken doctor with a hot temper and a violence-prone gangster with tuberculosis form a quicksilver bond. Review: A great gangster film and like many great films of that genre, it is about more than money and power. Kurosawa's first collaboration with Toshiro Mifune tells a great story about the relationship between a wayward young Yakuza and a stubborn but well-meaning doctor. They both have two things in common, they love to drink and love to quarrel. The strong script is brought to life by Kurosawa's excellent pacing and profound use of visual metaphors, especially the desolate swamp. Performance of and the chemistry between Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura produce moments of intensity, humour, and genuine compassion. This film belongs up there with the likes of Once Upon a Time in America and Goodfellas. Made in 1948, just 2 years before the beginning of the decade when Kurosawa made his most memorable and illustrious work, this film is the film that started Kurosawa down the path to everlasting cinematic greatness. Rating: 8.5/10
Haven't seen the Hollywood film but this was excellent, watched it close to when it was released on DVD. It might possibly be on Netflix or Amazon Prime now, I think I saw it on one of those a few months back
I'm watching old X Files at the moment and the 90's does seem like ancient history already! Glad you found a version of the Idiot to watch, am fairly surprised the BBC have never got round to doing a version, maybe with that War and Peace thing they are doing right now they might consider doing a few more Russian themed dramas
Apart from the singing, I'm quite enjoying War and Peace at the mo. Wife was giving it "Rose from Downton! Thingy from Harry Potter! He's in that thing with Robson Green as the vicar! Ade Edmonson!!" so I dropped a "Its Penfold from Dangermouse!!" in and she, thankfully, stfu.
Day 50, film 50,, "puncture", Chris evens(capt america) plays A drug addicted lawyer fighting a drugs company, Sounds like a conflict of interest to me, but I thought I'd give it a go, it's based on a true story..... It's from 2011....
"Puncture", quite enjoyed it, wasn't brilliant But defo watchable.... Mad how it's based On a true story... ****ing companies in America !!!
Anyone into motorcycling should watch this - this 90 minute documentary portrays the rawest form of racing, guest appearance by uber petrol-head & screen icon, Steve McQueen. Enjoy.
That's weird, I'm also re-watching the X-Files, on season 3 now. It was so good, although David Duchovny's voice is so monotone, it could be used to cure insomnia. He was also the voice of XIII, dontcha know.
Her indoors dragged me to see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies last night. Bloody awful (in many ways). Only redeeming features were Lily James' heaving bosoms. And they didn't have a patch on Jennifer Ehle's.
Yep, he's done a lot of good stuff actually. Can't beat watching the old X-Files just before I go to bed, have managed to find somewhere with HD remasters so Gillian Anderson has never looked so good...
Day 51, film 51, going with "snatch", I know I said brad Pitt wasn't great but I loved him in that film... Maybe I was a little harsh.....
