Always used to support every British team, but this is getting harder. It is ManU after all. How does ManU possibly winning the Europa affect Saints chances of getting into Europe?

I'll go with Mittjyland. I'd like to see them win the competition. Besides, ex-Saints Tim Sparv plays for them.

I'm sure everyone knows, but has anyone mentioned here that Wayne Rooney is out for 6 weeks with an injury?

The reason I bring it up is because on Radio5 last night they were counting the cost of his unavailability to Hodgson and dissecting what it might do to England. After loads of plaudits to Rooney, they eventually said that it might simplify Hodgson's thoughts and give him a chance to see how England will get on without the player.

Then Mark Chapman read out emails from England supporters, and I must admit I did chuckle. Not a single one agreed with what they had said other than it would be good for Hodgson not to have the distraction of Rooney. All of them referred to him being over-hyped, over-praised and over the hill. When the pundits protested, Chapman said, I'm just reading them out! :)

    Here's the programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070hpyd

About 12+ minutes in. The previous 10 minutes are wall-to-wall praise.

Yea Fran mentioned this yesterday, I am with the callers I believe Rooney is overhyped but have to blame skysports and the FA for that. If I was Roy my 4 strikers would be Vardy,Kane,Sturridge(if not injured) Austin.
But we all know Rooney will be a shoe in and Welbeck will be in because he is ex Man U and now plays for Arsenal, even though to date he has played about 10 mins this season.

And no keeper on the bench!

Wouldn't it be awful if Romero got injured? <whistle> I suppose Morgan would have to go in goal, he was our backup keeper I remember.

I also think Rooney is over-hyped. He's an extremely capable player. When he was a kid playing for Everton he certainly promised to be a world class footballer. But he never quite got there, and some pundits still think he's capable of producing the extraordinary on a regular basis. But evidence of several recent seasons suggests otherwise. I think it's a good opportunity for England to have a go at going it alone, especially if other people are fitter or in better form. He's had chance after chance to be great at international level and he hasn't delivered since 2006. Other very capable players have never had so many opportunities.

I asked a similar question on a different forum, but had no replies yet.
I know the Europa winners go into next year's CL, but don't know if that would give us 5 places (assuming the winner doesn't make top 4) or we would stay at 4 places only, with the team finishing 4th missing out on the CL and dropping into the Europa, meaning that the team finishing 5th could end up with nothing.

Found an article saying that the team in 4th would drop into the Europa....being displaced by the winner of the Europa. However, it didn't say whether a team could miss out by being pushed out of the Europa competition by the player dropping down from 4th. In reality, it will be very unlikely that both qualifiers from our Cup competitions and the team that win the Europa Cup are outside qualifying positions.

So really, we want Tottenham to win the Europa but finish in the CL positions anyway. We also need 2 of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Man City to get to the CL final, to ensure England keeps the 4th CL place.
