Very good read there Bluey - it just illustrates the chasm between the managerial qualities that exist in this game.

Russell Slade aside for the moment, whilst the successful managing of a football club isn't a job for the faint hearted, neither is it a job for a journeyman if a club wants success.

Journeymen belong in the lower reaches other than when they are used for a specific purpose - that's where we come back to Slade. He was definitely employed to do a job and to be fair has probably achieved his remit. That is where it should end though.

Post stabilisation both financially and playing staff wise, it's time to take this club to the next level. I'm not expecting Pochettino quality to manage in the Championship, but there must be someone waiting out there who can galvanise this club to the next level.

Nigel Pearson turned down Derby. Perhaps we have a pre-contract agreement for the summer? <whistle>

Joking aside, he would be my choice. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!!!!

Don't get your hopes up Blue! Tan, despite the goodwill surrounding him this week (and rightly so), has still got both of his managerial appointments wrong. A case of third time lucky certainly!

As long as he doesn't rest on his laurels and is willing to try again..

Anyway, despite all the ill feeling against him, Slade has done a better job than OGS and on a much tighter budget. Okay, I know that's not saying a lot.........

Well it does say it would not be a barrier to talks. The outcome can still be the same though. "Russell, you did/did not get us into the playoffs. All the best, bye bye."

WoL journos adding up 2 + 2 and making 6 again. The key phrase is "said he would consider keeping Slade on even if Cardiff do fall short". He's hardly going to sack him now but has to keep his options open. No point in upsetting everything at this late stage in the season even if a positive change could see us pushing for the playoffs. There would be a cost to the club in exiting Slade and his back up team now. Possibly not or much less so at the end of the season. Perhaps Tan has given up hope of getting to the top 6 this season?

As I mentioned on the other thread Slade deserves credit for what he's achieved so far in very difficult circumstances.

I have serious reservations about whether he can can take us forward from what he's achieved so far. However, if he gets us in or very close to the playoffs that's progress. It might be too slow for our support but it's progress. I would understand if not necessarily agree with the decision to give him another season (should it happen), I'm pretty sure I'd be in a tiny minority though.

Have to agree with you there Stevo.

What happens with Slade at the end of this season will be a barometer of how Tan sees the club moving next season.

Masky.... looking at your telly viewing, you need a girlfriend or more visits to the neighbour. Either that, or she's boiling your brain!!!
