Also another option if they want to keep a driver fresh is send him to a slow team. Like Riccardo to HRT. Give him some experience and keep him fresh.
I think Red Bull's pace last year is a bit anomalous. The blown diffuser is a powerful factor here and it was pretty much unique to their car in 2010 (the race not the season). Going for Vettel out of blind faith, he's pretty strong round here, outqualified Webber by about half a second I think.
I've gone for webber for the 3rd race in a row. My logic is simple. My lucky number is 3. Hopefully, it will be 3rd time lucky
It may be a much smaller advantage, but Red Bull are still quickest through the corners. For that reason, Vettel is the logical bet. Having said that, I think people are underestimating the situation at Germany with 3 equally matched cars in the race. McLaren (or Hamilton) had great success in the first sector where late braking and good front downforce were key. That made up for vulnerabilities in the second sector where downforce was more important. I think McLaren are going to be surprised how far behind they are in Hungary, unless there's rain. Meanwhile we had the issue of cold temperatures, and as we know Webber and Hamilton get heat into their tyres quickly while Ferrari struggle. Pat Fry said: "We knew that, with the cold, and it definitely was cold today, we struggled a bit more than the others to get our tyres up to temperature, with both the Prime and the Option, as could also be seen yesterday in qualifying." So despite colder tyre temperatures Ferrari were 3 tenths off pole and on par with Webber and Hamilton in the race. Not only will temperatures almost certainly be higher in Hungary but tyres will be softer. My bet is on Ferrari vs Red Bull, with Vettel emerging as the winner. Won't stop me voting Alonso in the poll though
the 'track was cold' argument doesn't really wash with me, it was warm for quali, and the McLaren was ahead of Vettel and Alonso, and during the race it was when the track had warmed up that Hamilton really pulled away
Oh, fair enough mate, misunderstood you . I think they should have some testing for drivers like Senna to get them some practice
It was fricken cold all weekend. It even rained Sunday morning for all races but F1 As most are saying it should be a close race with me guessing Alonso will win. And for the last 2 races (Silverstone, Nurburgring) I had a feeling before the race that the eventual winner would win.
Why have so many voted for alonso? This is a red bull track in every sense of the word, and to pick anyone other than a red bull driver is a brave move.
Well another factor as I keep saying is ---Bernie will WANT closer racing, Vettel running away will ruin F1 income. Funny how that is happening? Maybe RB have agreed to reduce engine map a nudge?
I can't call it to be honest, but that might be out of sheer stubborness to not vote for Vettel. I want Hamilton or possibly Alonso to win (heart) but I think it will be a RBR car (head). So, rather than Vettel, i'm going in with a Webber.
Good drive by Hamilton or a lucky win?? Good move on Alonso or a lucky one??? Thoughts as you were there???
Weather at Hungary on Saturday(On BBC Weather) has gone from Sunny to Sunny Intervals... 2006 anyone??? Happy 200 Jenson!!
It was cold for qualifying even colder in the race. This is something which Mark Hughes points out in his BBC article. Interestingly, he explains how Hungary "sounds like perfect Ferrari territory". What he says about Red Bull makes a lot of sense as well. In addition, the DRS zone has been confirmed: please log in to view this image
McLaren should do what they did in Malaysia. Beef up there downforce levels. No point taking wing off, as there is no chance to overtake here. To match Ferrari and Red Bull we need to this
when tyres were up to temperature Hamilton left them for dead, up until then it was close, so if it were tyres being cold then it should've gone the other way, fact is the McLaren has always seemed faster in the race than in quali, whereas RBR and Ferrari seem the opposite.
