And the kids take the piss out of me for wearing my fluorescent orange jacket and fluorescent yellow hat, when I do the paper round with them...

Even wearing that and bike lights on, a car pulled out of a junction on me a few months ago.

Happened to me...a verucca got infected and all the veins in my leg swelled up like a road map. Absolute agony. Penicillin put paid to it and I recovered fairly quickly.

And, DTLW, if your hand falls off....that's another bad sign.

Yeah, I got cellulitis on my shin after being kicked playing football - ended up getting septicaemia as I just left it (thought it was just a bruise) - the infection spread into my lymph glands and I had tracking all the way up my body. There was a moment where they thought they might need to amputate my leg. two weeks on an antibiotic IV drip and one operation later and all was fine and dandy!

Yep, like it too. I love sailing into places on the IOW. I'm sure loads of people have sailed up the Medina to Newport. I've done it loads of times over the years, via keelboat or dinghy. Occasionally I've got in at Yarmouth too, and that's certainly worth the sail just for itself. Bembridge is another. My favourites are the little creeks and brooks. There's Wooton Creek, Newtown Creek [my favourite] and Palmer's Brook on the north side. Makes me want to jump in a boat and sail across right now. Put the kettle on Fran.

One of the greatest boxers of all time. Top 5 I'd suggest. He's been the best of the modern era alongside Floyd Mayweather.

The problem with boxing is that when I were a lad, you could say "Who's the world heavyweight champion?" and people would know the answer.

Greed, as it tends to, destroyed a sport, in this case by developing 23,922 different weight categories allies with 224 governing bodies each claiming their champion is the champion. Short-term gain, death of a sport long-term.

Agreed, but Manny won pretty much everything in his career. First (and only) world champion across 8 weight divisions and an elected congressman in the Philippines too. Pretty amazing really, but sadly a bit too tied into the whole religious thing....

And therein lies the point. I think that eight weight divisions when I was young covered bantam to heavy.

Religion is a pitiful basis for public pronouncements of any kind. Sweeping statement but true in every case I've ever come across.

Flyweight through to Light-Middleweight is a fairly big thing though!

Just watched the film Kajaki on Netflix. Absolutely extraordinary, but only for those with an iron stomach. I don't think I'll sleep for weeks, but a real glimpse into how horrific war is.

Barack Obama weighing in on the US election. Making a key point that was also made by a couple (I can't remember who, sorry!) on here...

Please let Obama be president for a very long time. Come on USA, change your two-term rules.

Absolutely, and give him a Congress that will carry his policies forward: healthcare reform, gun control, and engaging with the rest of the world to tackle climate change to start with.

Failing Obama standing for a third term, I would love to see his wife take up the baton and stand. She is one extremely intelligent woman as she has shown whenever she speaks publicly.
