A frustrating night all round, but I'll take a point and lets move on. I think Hughton got his tactics spot on, Brucey didn't; neither did he adjust during the match. They had one forward up top who was well shackled by Daws, last night was screaming for 3-5-2 as we had a 'spare defender' pretty much all game.
Take the point and move on, a lot of teams between now and the end of the season are going to set up like Brighton did last night, personally speaking I think SB got his team selection wrong, had a feeling it was going to be a slugging match as I posted on Saturday I personally feel that you cant play Diame and Hudd in these sort of games not so much Hudd last night, but Diame might as well have stayed in the dressing room for me.
"Emphasis on mustn't lose than let's try to win it" is, I think, the core philosophy of too many English managers; Pulis, Allardyce, Pardew, McClaren, Bruce, they all play to not lose, which is very different from playing to win. It's a philosophy that can give a club a measure of success but makes it highly unlikely that they will ever actually win anything. I hope the success of Leicester will encourage teams to adopt a more adventurous approach, though it's unlikely any of the aforementioned managers will be for turning.
For those complaining about the team or the cold who went, stfu. Whining bastards. You didn't have to listen to a pair of ****s make anyone from Hull look like ****s. Next time I'm just gonna follow the ****ing BBC match feed.
You've changed your tune. What happened to you wanting £15m for him & him being good enough for the PL?
Odubajo's thoughts on last night... “Teams that come here set up totally differently to how they usually do and you saw that last night when Brighton set up with five in midfield when they usually play with two up front,” said Odubajo. “If teams as high as Brighton in the league table are changing their style completely then you can imagine the respect the whole league has for us. “Games are going to be hard because everybody wants to beat us but we have to make sure that if we can’t win, we get a point. “Playing against such defence-minded sides can be really hard but we have the ability and talent here to break that down. We have to learn to be patient and take our chances in the game because that is what these types of games come down to. “It’s going to be tough against teams who arrive with the sole purpose of stopping us. In Abel and Mo we have two dangerous strikers, arguably the two most dangerous strikers in the league, and we have to create the right opportunity for them but unfortunately it didn’t come last night. “We have to move the ball quicker against this type of opposition because that is how it is going to be from now until the end of the season. “We were all a bit disappointed that we didn’t come away with all three points but at the end of the day, that could be the point that gets us promotion come the end of the season.” Changing focus to the Emirates FA Cup tie against Arsenal at the weekend, the defender admits he’s looking forward to the occasion. “Playing against Arsenal will be an unreal experience – just like Manchester City was,” he added. “I hope I’m chosen and if I am then I’ll give it my all and hopefully show them what I’m made of.” http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/...n-the-run-in-2960005.aspx#X0BsZmdHww0Pys34.99
Been a brilliant signing. Was superb last night. That bit of skill in midfield second half, brill. Plus the run in the first half.
True. They have now drawn 12 games(10 away draws) and you can see why. Chris Hughton paid Hull City massive respect with the way he set his team up to frustrate and it worked. Talk about parking the bus,, Hughton parked up a double decker bus ffs. We did not get caught out on the break thankfully and Stockdale saved well from Clucas at the end. It is another point which makes us the first team to get to 60 pts for the season. My only real moan was why did Bruce bring on Elmo ? He should have sent on Diomande for the 5 mins or so left. We needed some ariel power. Even sending up Davies for the last few mins may have worked. Aren't we just. Yes. Top of the league with 15 games to go and with the best goal difference in the championship. Simply not good enough is it. Indeed so. They were very worried about us and Hughton was not afraid to say as much both pre/post match. Last night was hardly a disaster. I wondered why that poor lady near you needed medical attention.
Lots of teams have set up against us at the KC in that manner. We have usually managed to break them down - last night too many players weren't at their best - so if you can't win the game. make sure you don't lose it.
We still don't have anyone in the squad with a killer pass in them, despite all his 'we're working on it' we are beyond slow at getting the ball forward ( we are a slow slow slow team no pace) and Bruce's favourites could be telling in the long term. Just because Diame's brother is on the pitch doesn't mean he should play. I dint hear his interview, did he admit he got it wrong..?
I've not seen the "highlights" (Arf) of the game but how close was the shot from Dunk?? McGregor was rooted to the spot. He looks real class does Dunk. Surprised someone didnt come in for him last month.
I was going to post some insightful thoughts on why we only managed a draw. But just as I went to write my post, the site went down and now I can't remember what I was going to put!
