How long would you watch an abandoned bike before taking it?

There was a really nice Pashley bike left in my street for over 3 hours. Just leaning against a wall with no chain.

It had some damage to it, as if maybe it had been knicked a while back and joyridden to death.

I took it, but still feel a bit guilty about it. Took it to the bike repair shop today and it only needs about £40 of work done to it.

They cost £650 new.

 

I'm not sure if a mere 3 hours counts as something being abandoned!

 

I'd probably watch it in cycles.

 

If it hasn't got a chain on it I would say someone dumped it

Doesn't change the fact he goes around picking up discarded junk

 

Do the same basic rules apply to parked cars??

Oh sorry I thought the OP meant chain as in the thing that makes the bike go, not chain as in locking device
