It was just a simple case of having 2 insurance policies as the company didn't cancel my "auto renewal" as requested when I did the requote. So I had the new policy and the renewal!

And then the person on the phone said "oh some people don't mind having 2 policies for a while" err hello ...... And I managed to keep it polite!

So where do I look for some Brentford views???? They barely use NOT 606!

Buy a low cc old banger for £100 and get him to insure 3rd party fire and theft only - cheapest insurance you can find. Dont use the car. Then add him as a named driver on the car he wants to drive. Might prove best as after one year he will qualify for a no claims bonus and can move to insure the car he drives - just a thought but could be worth looking into

I kinda suggested putting him on Mr H's policy as a named driver . Not Hornettes incase something did happen! Even using an old banger now for a youngster is insane! see above posts mate!

Góðan daginn til allra. I have a rush this morning so you will have to organise your own beverages, but there is cappuccino, coffee, tea and donuts on the bar.

I could not begin to design a banner - I leave that to those more worthy - I will just vote for my favourite - thanks

One thing my brother did was to put a low limit of miles on a car he bought - if you were not really intending to use it you could agree to a 1,000 mile limit or so and that does bring the cost down

It's illegal, that's the only problem. But if Mr H does drive the car, it won't be so bad so that's probably what we'll end up doing. I found great insurance much cheaper but they put a gps box in the car and as long as the car isn't moving between 11pm and 5am it's cheap. Once they go passed that, it's £100 a time. I'm going to call and see how much it costs, but i can't see it being a practical solution...he'll never be home by 11pm! lol

he's bought his own car, £850...old banger. i can't insure him on mine, my policy won't allow him to drive it until he's 21, because it's special for Driving Instructors. He can't drive Mr H's coz it's 2400cc and would be crazy to insure..and even for a car worth £100 it would be mega bucks. It's unbelievable...how to take the shine off a very exciting day! :(

Reminds me of a joke I heard a long time ago (can't remember the comedian): What's the point of third party fire and theft insurance as who wants to nick a car that's on fire?

Making it a legal requirement gives the insurance companies carte blanche to rip people off , NZ has it right my making it advisory, keeps prices competitive and if you are not insured and hurt someone you will be paying them off for a long time most Kiwis have motor insurance although it isnt a legal requirement! Sounds a more sensible system to me!

I don't understand how they can be so daft! You can pass at 17, but unless you're very lucky, you can't afford to drive. So, you have a full licence, and when you can finally afford a car and insurance, you've forgotten how to drive and are a danger on the road. How does this make sense??

Aha, you seem to be expecting "joined up thinking"!!!

Car insurance is such a minefield for so many reasons. All of those you're thinking about + the fact that RBS (who owns so many of the names) has been told to sell them, so is looking for them to be able to show a profit.

The biggest loser is the consumer, and are we getting more road patrols to actively police the laws???? NO

I do not envy you H, trying to find insurance for your son. I hate it when mine comes up for renewal.

it's completely outrageous! i really had no idea..i knew it was bad, but there are so many kids on the roads round here, i thought it was easier to find the cheaper quotes..i guess not! lol...unless they're all driving uninsured!
