I think the problem is in the councils historical stance on maintenance and protection of old buildings facade ,
It pees me off when I look down whitefriargate and see the broken lines and disjointed shop fronts on the side containing heron , lush , Cex. They should have more stringent rules in place for store owners/ landlords etc but the landlords just follow the guidelines..

Trinity House own some of the buildings and they are pretty strict in my experience.

You know ownership only plays no part on what can / should be allowed when it comes to alterations If TH own any part of of the right side then they have been active in its disheveled state , I would guess they have owned most of the frontage at some point in history , although what each front looked like before sale would be interesting

Apparently the new paving down Whitefriargate is being delayed, as it's too cold to lay it.

I'm not sure what sort of weather they were expecting in February. <doh>

They started work on the cafe in Queens Gardens, hopefully they'll be sorting that pathetic tribute to Mick Ronson at the same time...

Does anyone know if this building is being demolished and replaced, or simply re-furbished. It is rather a horrible 70's Building. Looks like they took a liitle part of my old school, Biigin Hill, on Bransholme and dumped it there.

I can't remember seeing anything about what's actually happening to it.

The Masterplan Guidance for Queen's Gardens July 2013 said :-
"The café is utilitarian and is in the way of a potential north south
axial route and views into the gardens from Grimston Street. A
lighter, stylish pavilion/pod type building could add a focus to
the gardens and add great value to the amenity and quality of
the area. It should have the capacity for everyday demand which
could increase on the existing building but also be able to serve
external events crowds. In terms of scale it could go up to two
storeys and have a light airy ‘wintergarden’ feel and/or could
    support an elevated terrace/ mezzanine"
Not sure that plans have been agreed to progress the replacement..

that graph looks a little worrying , for a start why does it stop at 2017 end . Only 2 projects are proposed to be finished ,
Did we ever get a result in the "Iconic Bridge" i forgot what was decided on.

It stops at spring 2017, as that's when everything is planned to be finished.

The bridge on Castle Street is due to open Easter 2017, it probably won't, but it's still planned for then at the moment.

Not much point in spending millions doing a place up if people treat it like this (May Street, Bev Rd, today), these people want putting down...

They need to nip that in the bud, before it gets as bad as places like Snuff Mill or Benningholme.
