And that he put his leg in the opposing players direction rather than going after the ball. I get sick of these penalties where a player hits a ball to the side and then carries on into the opposition player.

Just as he likes to be. I've said it before - the man likes to be the centre of attention and I think he thinks he's bigger than the game. Pity - because a "real" ref would prefer to be out of the limelight and just get on with the game. I worry that there are so few decent refs around these days we're going to continue to see appalling decisions made which greatly affect the outcome of games.

I think Michael Oliver is probably the best ref we've got at the moment. Certainly not Twattenberg

I'm not sure he'd want to be at the centre of this particular attention, dcg69.

True - but I find it interesting that a referee wouldn't think having the same agency as a number of the footballers whose games he is officiating over might be an issue!!

Got around to watching MOTD 2. What an awful decision by Clattenburg. He wasn't looking. Worrying.

However, not sure about the attention theory. Won't look good long term if it's mainly negative.

No, I don't think Clattenburg is overtly seeking attention. He's a high profile referee who gets in the news a lot due to post-match video technology dissecting his [and other refs] every questionable decision. Video-aid technology can't be developed soon enough.

Next thing we'll hear is that a league ref has topped himself/herself due to depression in the job. That'll be considered a bad decision, no doubt.

This attention seeking **** is completely unfounded. And the story itself may not be true.

It may be unfounded, however it appears to be something that a few people on this forum believe to be part of his character.

Yeah, by looking at him from 50 yards away or on a TV screen. I know he was a complete dick in his youth (he got banned from the tournament I go to in the States when he was 20 or something) but from people I have spoken to who know him now he grew out of it fairly quickly and he's a decent bloke.

too defensive Tom. It is opinions..... I'll remember that quote next time you make a judgment call on a decision :)

Could he be a decent bloke who likes the limelight?

ye, it's less about the ref's ability and more about the slyness of the players. Thing is, we have the video technoloy now to show what has happened, but there seems to be no desire to punish divers. If they banned Vardy for 5 games for cheating he'd think twice about doing it. It doesn't help that there are managers like Pulis who quite obviously choreographs diving and sly fouling on his training pitch.

I'm not sure I go along with any of your Vardy stuff or your insinuation that Pulis choreographs diving during his training sessions. Perhaps you can provide substance to your accusations? Link?

Pulis hates diving as well. He wouldn't tolerate his own players diving.

When asked about the foreign interest in him, Poch said he was happy in England. Doing his usual evasive stuff....though admittedly he could have been playing with the journos. Too much to hope he will ditch Spurs, but I can dream, can't I?
