I could never understand what Hammers fans grumbled about. They were among the relegation candidates when he went there. They've never even been near it since. With Sky money being what it is now, safety comes before all other considerations. Relegation is nothing short of catastrophic these days. Sam turned West Ham around and he looks like he might just do it for us. He'll do for me.
Big Sam just seems like a perfect fit for Sunderland. We should have got him years ago. I like him, always have and he has dismissed this notion of him being a long ball manager, we have been playing some decent football lately.
When that useless c u n t MON was appointed, Sam was my choice. We'd be in the champions league now FFS!! Bart
I never really him much before he came here I must admit but now I think he's great. There's no way I would have chosen him over MON at the time - MON had a great record and did well for us to start with. I still think the problem with MON was no John Robertson. However, with hindsight I think we're far better off with Sam and so far he seems to be able to identify the players we need. In contrast with MON where we got Fletcher and Graham.
Big Sam just seems like the right fit for the club, I much prefer watching us now to the slow possesion based football that a couple of our previous managers tried and failed to implement, watching Poyets side was a real chore for the few months before he left. He's made some good signings in the window and has started trimming the deadwood which is something for the most part the DoF failed to do. He isn't without his drawbacks though, sometimes when you see us settling for a draw when you think the game is there to be won is very frustrating but for a club like us I think big Sam might be about the best level of manager we could hope for.
The only record MON had was that all his teams played s h I t negative football. Ask any Villa/Celtic fan. Bart.
He is doing a fantastic job from where we were. If he had been here at the start of the season and we were 10th now I bet a lot of people would be complaining about the football, but if we stay up and we are 10th next year he will be a god no matter what football we play. Football fans are a strange bread!
I honestly haven't got a problem with the football we play and I am rather surprised to be reading that.. West Ham played very decent football under Sam, and he showed there that all this long ball talk is just a myth, he's not like Tony Pulis at all. Although some people would have you believe that he is. Look at how miserable we were under Poyet, and how boring Man Utd have become under LVG. That's the kind of football, I never want to see again.
Seems strange you point out his debut match, where he didn't have the best start, but yet you fail to mention his game against Man City when he was absolutely fantastic and MOTM... The only concern around Kirchoff, is his fitness.
Me too. I was going to start a thread on this, as he done quiet a decent job, believe it or not. He got forward into a couple of shooting positions, and behind Khazri, he created the most number of chances for us (One being the through ball for N'Doye... )
Like most fans I'm quietly confident but let's see another good performance from him - I'm sick of going overboard about things & ending up with egg on my face - I tend to be too positive
If we survive this year, and we end up in mid table mediocrity next year without having to worry about relegation, I'll be owa the ****in moon! Sam can build this team into something solid. Get some youth in the set up, get a youngish team, good spine with some experienced heads, and then if we feel we need to push on and he can't provide that, we bring in someone else. Look what he did for West Ham. Cept those ****s are too arrrogant to thank him for what he did, they just wanted the ol' West 'am way of football. Twats. Now the Croat has them playing pretty well, after they stabilised by BSA
