Seems like an apt time to again mention that (probably) the best goal I’ve ever seen City score was against Brighton.

Andy Payton in a 5-2 home win circa 1988.

Never seen video footage of the goal - in my head I recall him beating about five men.

Mike Gatting’s brother (or cousin?) played for them too.

You heard the saying "don't count your chickens until they hatched"

So please don't count our goals until they have been scored!!

Don't want the score to be jinxed! When we everyone thinks we gonna win easy we lose!!

Especially as we won't have either of them still to play.

Same team if anything swap Hudd for Myler or Hayden, maybe Hayden with him not able to play in the cup.

This season we've got our best results in this kind of game. Brighton are nothing special. I'd go with Meyler or Hayden just because it's worked well in this kind of game before. Bruce mentioned Huddlestone was in because of Blackburn's shape but this is a different side so Tom will just have to be patient again.

Meyler for Hudds would be my only change given he's fresh as a daisy after a rest, and played against both Boro and Burnley at home when we won both 3-0. If Brucey doesn't think Snodders can go again after 4 days, expect to see Elmo. That said Snooders can have a good rest after tonight so give him and hour and change for Elmo then?

Who was that class striker pretending to be fast-but-useless Jason Harris?

Definitely the best goal I saw at Boothferry, that. I've not seen video of it either.

    Appreciate that though - thanks.

We're talking nearly 30 years ago, but I sort of recall it in the vein of Maradona's second goal v England - but starting from further out.

I bet Huddlestone starts. It took a lot of games before Bruce dropped him and one decent game and I think he's back for a stretch. I hope I'm wrong. Bruce just rates him.

We have such a good squad it's hard to pick a starting line up.

Huddlestone played well, shouldn't need a rest so should play? Hayden can't play Saturday so give Livermore a deserved rest?

I can't see Snodgrass being risked so Elmo back in?

Will Diame or Hernandez play two games in a few days? Especially with Akpom being unavailable on Saturday?

Will Maloney ever play? I'd be tempted to go with this:

    McGregor
    Odubajo Davies Dawson Robertson
    Elmo Hudd Hayden Clucas
    Akpom Hernandez

Although I would be equally happy with Hudd being replaced by Meyler or Livermore with with the two that don't play today playing on Saturday. Likewise Maloney, Diomande, Powell, Aluko could play up front to rest Hernandez. Jesus we could literally field a totally different 11, it would look just as strong and some people would still miss out. I don't envy Steve Bruce having to decide.

Wondering if Dawsons up to two games quickly these days, maybe big H will be back crushing two fellas with one tackle and wreaking havoc in their penalty area

He'll stick with Dawson, Harry will be back in at Arsenal.
