Germany showed the same attitude as the Brits when they eased off against Brazil in the semis. They could have taken the piss, but looked a bit embarrassed instead.

Disagree, I think that's a weird way to say he's not

Maradona was so much better than Messi.

Little drug taking, cheating git that he was, but I agree. :)

He could take any game, at any level, by the scruff of the neck and change it to his purpose.

Argentina really are mediocre apart from their forward line. Messi the best player I've ever seen. As for the penalty, I don't see anything disrespectful about it. It's their penalty, they can do what the **** they like with it.

I think they're very similar but Messi edges it for me. Messi has the ability to completely change games in seconds just the same as Maradona

Agreed but Maradona done it at international level. Almost single handedly inspired the Argies to the WC.

And Messi took Argentina to the final and only just lost vs the best international team in the world

For me Maradona edges it because he went to Italy and won the league with a very unfancied Napoli twice......
But Messi is stil a genius....just look at this skill.

Disagree, Messi took them out of the poorest group in the tournament. Their good defence got them to the final <ok>

Also he had a great chance in that final, if he scores that then it would probably be universally agreed now.

Except he doesn't do it at international level. Maradona did all the time.

Can't believe I'm actually speaking up for the little ****, but one just has to admit it. :)

Which is why defining best ever in terms of their success international stage is not ideal i.e. in world cups, it all depends on standard of other teams, and your run to the final.

Hmm I'm not sure, if we're talking about the greatest of all time, then surely they need to have been successful on both fronts?

I agree but Pele has won 3 world cups so where does that put him? Equal with Maradona and slightly behind Messi in my list of all-time greats.

I think people get mixed up with team achievements and outstanding individuals within a team. In a club setting, where he knows everyone around him, Messi plays like few others. At international level he fades into the background. At international level, Maradona stood out head and shoulders above the other members of his team, who were no mugs in themselves. Pele still stood out from his peers and yet almost every teammate was at the top of being world class. Players like Jairzinho, Rivelino, Gerson, etc...

The biggest joke was that FIFA made Messi Player of the Tournament, at the last World Cup. Many/most people thought it questionable at the time. Any award from that crowd these days holds very little validity. I suspect it was more to do with thousands or millions of dollars going from one or several major sponsors bank accounts to one or two within FIFA.

Agree with all of that but the awarding of best player to Messi in Brazil was ridiculous, even he looked embarrased to get it <doh>

My new Playstation 2 Charlie Austin scoring his first goal on his full debut against Arsenal. We thrashed 'em**:

**I always play on the hardest possible setting.

Note the veho shirt sponsor on the Away shirt. Pro-Evo 6 only gives you one option for Home or Away. And yes, I know the sash is the wrong way around too. PE6 doesn't do a good sash the right way. Shame.

I know it's nerdish, but I've got a few PS2 photos. Here's Graziano playing against Leicester City. That's Deano beside him:

Note the typical PES6 half-empty stadium. There were a lot of complaints about their idea of realism at the time.

Last one. Couldn't leave out Scousehampton, could I? From the recent Twatbeard era. He's now officially Twatcheeks on my PES6:

Photo centres on Henderson to get them all in. This was a free-kick from which I must have actually scored [I don't often] because this is a freeze of the replay. They all look a bit sheepish. Should do, as we beat 'em soundly. Stadium almost totally free of spectators. Must be charging too much Liverpool!
