And that night....


The Prisoners sleep fitfully in the first night at the hotel, it’s a humid muggy night and this adds to the discomfort. At three A.M, eight or ten neighbors of Prisoner 7, wake to shrieks from outside their fourth-floor suites. You run in to the hall and find some of the prisoners already in the hall and think you hear two voices from within the suite, then silence. You decide to break down the locked door and find the room in utter disarray. But where is 7? While the others mill about you examine the scene. The door was locked so how did 7 or the other voice get out of here?

The group recounts what’s happened. 7 was meant to make his escape attempt tonight? Has he succeeded? They all agree that they heard two voices: one, a deep booming voice; and the other, a higher voice of uncertain ethnic origin, shrill almost.


You look around the room, a coffee table is turned over spilling a late night cocoa on the carpet ruining the lovely white sheep skin rug in front of the broad fire place. A book lies on the floor, its pages fluttering. A lamp lies broken into shards on the floor. Blood is spattered across the room and you spot black flecks of some other substance spoiling the rug further.

You examine the suite, the windows look locked and the bathroom is tidy and undisturbed save for a small smear of blood on the wall. The bed not slept in.

A closer examination of the fireplace leads you to a grizzle discovery. Someone has stuffed the body up the chimney to dispose of it quickly. With difficulty you extract the body from the chimney.

A cursory glance tells you that the man is dead, you look for evidence of what has occurred, you note that the room was tossed about, there had to have been a struggle here but first you examine the body more closely, you find a lock of dark hair clutched in the his hand and see that he’s been stabbed twice in the chest with a narrow blade. You take the hair from his cold dead hand.

You have to wonder how the murderer got out of here as it was mere moments before you had broken the door down.



The next Morning

As a group you decide to push out from the hotel and explore just where the boundaries of the prison is. You talk through shaded gardens and well-kept woods. After a while the land begins rising steeply. Up, up, up you climb, towards a quaint gazebo as the summit of a grassy knoll. At the summit you take seat and feel a cool calming breeze and you almost forget for just a moment where you are.

You get a great view of the grounds and surrounding landscape to the west, you see a snow capped mountain too tall and steep to climb.

To the south you can see a pristine inland lake and beyond to the south east jungle.

To the north is hilly, arid ground as far as you can see.

To the east you see the sea.

You think back over what you've learned so far, trying to decide which way to go.


You hear a scream……. Prisoner 22 has ventured too far, he is being chased by a giant bubble... oh dear this won't end well. you watch as he is consumed whole.... what a way to go.


You head back down the steps and through the formal garden and come to a shaded shrub border where half buried among the shrubs lay the lifeless body of what appears to be a young man in his early twenties.

The bloody body leaned against a stump, tossed away like some worn-out rag doll. Dirty, broken fingernails showed signs that he struggled to save himself.


Across the path, barely visible in the shadows cast by a willow tree, lay what appeared to be a baseball bat used to end the life of this unfortunate Prisoner number 5. He's been murdered after wandering off for a minute.


You've got to get out of here but how?
