This guy really needs to go now, would rather see Giggs look after the squad for the rest of the season.

Pleased to see Welbeck playing again, sadly it's for Arsenal. The local lad and Manchester United fan was sold by LVG as he rated Falcao and RVP higher.

An early sign that he just didn't get it.

Yeah I don't think Welbeck is the answer to our problems but glad to see him back and doing ok.

If you think back to those end of summer window clear-out days it really was an early indicator of what was to come. Out went RvP, Falcao and Chicarito and there was an impending sense that some amazing striking talent was inbound - only goes to show how wrong you can be. Falcao aside, the other two must have been worth 18 goals between them - just imagine what that would have meant to our season.

And as it now turns out we missed a great opportunity to go 3 points behind City FFS

If we miss out on CL, how will it affect our manager choices for next season?

    Any ideas.

I don' think it will make a great deal of difference. If, as appears to be the case at the moment, Jose wants the job then I don't suppose it will make much difference. From where Jose is sitting it was always unlikely that we would qualify. The loss of Adidas and CL TV money (£100m) may clip the new managers wings in terms of transfers, but the latest financials suggest we can afford the best players as it is.

Outside of Jose I still think the best of the rest would jump at the chance to take on the job - CL football or not, they can all see the potential.

Yeah, I think Jose is probably banking on us not getting CL which is why he is prepared to wait until summer for the job.

I only posed the question because many people think CL makes a difference to which players can be signed (I think that is bullshit unless you are in it every year), so wondered if people thought it would make a difference in a managers decision.

I don't think CL will make much of a difference to the "rebuilding" job. The majority of the squad is in place and it's not like we'd be looking to sign Neymar (well, Woodwood might have a crack to help the lad get a pay rise). A few tweaks to the squad overseen by a competent manager and I think we'll be fine for a top 4 position to kick things off, especially when the quality of the opposition is taken into account.

The reality is a decent-good squad has been massively hamstrung by a manager who has never understood United, the PL or that his methods simply don't work.

Teams practise patterns of play in pre season. They then spend the season implementing what they've been taught, occasionally making the odd amendment. Under LVG we've been stuck in a rut of an ineffective pattern of play, occasionally trying to rip it up and try something completely new, untried and untested (but alarmingly more effective!).

    Fresh start required.

For many years I would have answered that with a definite no. After the last 3 seasons I am thinking yeah, why not.
He has obviously coveted the job since his first stint in England so given the chance, may just settle down and try to make his mark long term. We can only hope, but if he just carries on like his past at least we will get two good years out of him.

No doubt that LVG is going the same way as Moyes. Just cannot keep the consistency that united fans expect after years of continued success.

United going down the route of Spurs. No the old Spurs, the current one is pretty good. The old Spurs who can bring themselves to play well against a top team but then gets beaten by a lower team through lack of fight, avoidable errors et al.

At this rate, United will end up between 5th and 10th. Depending of which matches they decide to perform in. Nothing to be gained by keeping LVG as he looks a baffled beaten man. He simply cannot work out why his team is so bad. This United team just does not have the necessary talent. The only player who is performing at a reasonable level is Martial ( the one player I said was an incredibly good buy at the time <whistle> ) With possiblyDeGea (!). All the others have been poor or inconsistent. Depay Morgan Bastian have been disappointing and the good ones we have are past their peak. The Rooneys Carricks at al.

We need to get a manager whose top priority is scoring goals. And whose philosophy us not just to win matches but to win matches with attacking football. And who can assemble a proper team. One that is greater than the sum of its parts. A manager who can integrate players with the quality of the likes of ex-players such as Oshea, wes brown, fletcher, cleverley, welbeck, - squad players into the team when the stars are injured/suspended,

Can Jose do that for United ? Not sure. But I am even less optimistic that Giggs can do that.

U21s won again tonight to go 4 points clear at the top of the league. I really enjoy watching them, they play like I expect the first team to play.
Warren for next manager anyone :emoticon-0100-smile
