Random stat of the day: two unbeaten stretches of six games (Sept 26 - Nov 7, and now Jan 13 - Feb 13) account for less than half of our games played, but all but 10 of our points. When we're hot, we're hot.

Edit: We did the right thing in keeping him on the bench until the New Year this season, he'll last until May now!

 

13/01/16 - Steven Caulker leaves Saints (13th), to join Liverpool (8th).

13/02/16 - Saints yet to concede a goal in the six matches since Caulker's departure and up to 6th. LFC slip into the bottom half, down to 11th.

 

Doing the math, that means the nebulous creation known as Caulker's Team is currently on 29 points in 25 games, in danger of getting sucked into the relegation race. Remarkable impact from a player with exactly one league start.

Didn't see or listen to that as working. Can anyone explain the formation used because I can't understand it looking at line up!

 

Great result today but have lost my patience with Pelle (which was quite short anyway) The guy is either way short of fitness or struggling with injury or just pain uninterested. Whichever it is he shouldn't be playing until he regains fitness / the injury gets better / regains interest.

He just does not hold the ball up at all now and has gone from the odd silly flick in a game to constantly trying to offload the ball if it comes near him.

I am really impressed with JWP this season and I love the first time crossing from our team at the minute. Opposition defences really struggle when you put the ball in the dangerzone first time without that extra touch.

One thing I would say is what a bad decision it was to offload Shelvey. I can't stand him and wouldn't want him in a Saints shirt but if he were on that pitch today there were several perfect opportunities for him to get his 'shoot on sight' quota. In that first half when the ball was being put into that 25 yard central area I kept saying to myself (more thinking) glad Shelvey's not there.

 

3-5-2 With Davis starting as right wing back. Cedric took over when he came on.

As you might expect from the personnel grouping (and the stats), we were very solid defensively but generated very little for the bulk of the match, with the exception of a couple instances where Swansea's defense simply failed to mark anyone on crosses.
