Hello, crew. I say that ‘Betfair Hurdle’ at Newbury on Saturday is a strange beast! Mr Henderson, the forum’s favourite trainer, won has won the heat 5 times, hasn’t made a single entry! Montbazon though, once dubbed ‘the hope of the county’, is set to return after 18 months away. You would have thought though that the old boy handicapper would have been a bit more lenient than just dropping him 2 lbs! A very tough return, methinks

Meanwhile, a bit disappointed that no-one still hasn’t got that ‘S’ horse who has won a Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and is being primed to win another event, but this time over hurdles, at this years meet. Still waiting to see if he’s been put in Saturday’s renamed ‘Game Spirit’.

    Good luck all.

Arrived home from work to find an email from Skybet. I have a free £25 bet due to them having technical issues over the weekend. TBH it didn't affect me but hey free bet so happy days. Thought I'd have a look at today's thread thinking there may be one or two fancies but there seems to be several. Choices, choices.

People, should we be reading anything into the fact that it looks like Mr Henderson is set to debut HADRIAN’S APPROACH for the term over hurdles at Newbury on Saturday?!? Keen to preserve his chasing mark (currently 147) for the GN and all that.

Seems to be something of a forgotten horse but the form is certainly in the book re him. He’s won what was the former Whitbread Gold Cup and been placed in both the Grade 1 RSA and Feltham.

Should Hadrian get to Aintree and then everything ‘click’ current quotes of 66/1 would look Large with a capital ‘L’.

I say Barney has someone slipped something in your breakfast tea this morning?

Could Hadrian really jump round in a National with his patchy record?

Oh no I won't. Getting everything ready last night and realised my passport was in Amanda's partner's car (we used it to come over for the Wycombe v Villa replay). That car is about 1 hour away from Belgium <doh>. So the wife has gone instead

First race at Market Rasen is interesting. Three Colours Red is too big at 16/1. 5 runner race so win only but at that price i'll have a sporting little punt. The two favs have to give up 7 lbs today. Three Colours Red's form ties in with the fav and off these terms there's not that much between the two. I'd imagine there's improvement to come from them both so it may just boil down to a case of which one comes on the most. One's evens and the other is 16/1 so it's a pretty clear choice. Wolf catcher is a definite worry but i'll take the chance.

Well done, Stick. As always you are correct. Although please note, regular readers, that Savello is now not going for the Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase that was – interestingly the barn have opted to enter Willow’s Saviour instead. Savello now looks likely to go for Ascot’s, unimaginatively titled, Grade 1 Ascot Chase, run a week later.

Savello, who won the ’14 Grand Annual, is rated a whooping 19 lbs lower over hurdles than the big ‘uns. Next week will be his ‘prep’ (I’m not in any way tipping him for this, incidentally, it will solely be to blow away the old cobwebs) and then its on to Cheltenham for almost certainly the conditionals race. Before October Savello hadn’t gone over hurdles for some 3 and a half years but have a look at his 2 races this term over them – 7 lengths off Old Guard (when giving him 2 lbs) and 7 lengths off Lil Rockerfella (when rec 7 lbs). Under the circumstances I think 138 more than fair re Savello and think him a live hurdling contender off that perch.

Still laughing at someone suggesting SIRE DE GRUGY might go for one of the hurdles Barney........
The Martin Pipe is the likely target and would merit respect but I wonder who they have in mind pilot wise.....

I think he’d be fine. And don’t forget he’d have the assistance of Mr Henderson’s brilliant brain and ‘magic hands’ to get him over the big ‘uns.

Interestingly, re Hadrian’s, I’ve just looked on Oddschecker and see he’s ‘blue’ with a couple of bookies – only him and the fave, Many Clouds, currently fall into this category.
