Although the HSCA was introduced in 2012 it was in fact Labour that brought in private firms to the NHS under the Blair administration and the amount of private firms has grown only fractionally in recent times. I say get rid of them all and manage the NHS more efficiently. I actually think the main problem in the NHS is bad, overly bureaucratic management from the top down. A mate of mine has a wife who works in the NHS as a medical secretary. She isn't on the bottom rung and has had a couple of promotions. She has SEVEN - yes SEVEN tiers of management above her. That can't be right. Also, why is it that we can't train and recruit people here rather than import people to work in the NHS? My son's mate was a straight A student with 4 A stars at A level in all the right subjects but had to wait a year to get into med school. Another mate of his was rejected altogther. Wtf? Something is very wrong in the way the whole thing is run I'm afraid.
Kiff, they look after themselves. They put a shroud of people around themselves so it makes it hard to get at them.
There is nothing wrong with private NHS. I use the service now and again but they should never do away with the NHS at all and go down the route of the American way that if you don't buy enough insurance you are left with thousands of £'s in debt or in some cases you just die......If you can afford to use private care then that's a good thing..
There is a belief among a lot of elderly people i talk to that the drugs they are prescribed are chosen by the pharmacutical companies based on most profitable rather than quality and the doctors have no choice in what they dol out ?
Could argue the same about cancer treatments. It's accepted tha cannabis oil is very effective against most, if not all forms of cancer yet the worlds governments will not legalise this treatment because it's the pharmaceutical companies that are financing the governments of today.
We have situations in the UK where if you don't live in the right post code you cant get the proper medical treatment, How ridiculous is that...
But it's the same in terms of schools, university applications, jobs etc too Dai. Something drastically needs to change and until the Tories are overthrown it will continue as normal.
Mate of mine is an NHS manager and he cannot make any efficiency savings as his hands are tied. Can't sack anyone no matter how bad they are as the unions get up in arms straight away. Can't get supplies through a cheaper supplier.... We're spending too much money on reacting to illnesses instead of being proactive and preventing them e.g. why don't we prescribe dieticians and gym memberships instead of spending loads on diabetes and heart treatment. It's just all about face. And the NHS was never meant to cover all of the things it covers now e.g. boob jobs, IVF, ... People need to be taught how to look after themselves first and foremost with the NHS being almost last resort. That starts in schools with healthy eating and exercise education. That's my opinion anyway and my mum slogged it out as an NHS nurse. She saw plenty of lazy doctors and nurses and it all just wore her down so she had to get out. Problem is everyone is out for themselves and looking for someone to blame. Unfortunately that's a fault in our society
Health is a devolved power, as is Education. Blame Labour in Cardiff Bay - it's they that have cut the NHS budget. The 'Evil Tories' in England didn't.
But Labour cut our budget as a result of their budget being cut by the Tories. All so that Cameron could use it as a political football to score brownie points in England.
Problem is good doctors don't make good managers and vice versa!!!! But successful doctors get made into senior management. Same with schools.
Valley: Nah. It's well established that the Barnet formula has ****ed Wales over for years and political parties of all colours have allowed it to continue. In fact, UKIP were the only ones in the last election to promise in their manifesto to scrap it. People forget that. The Welsh Government chose not to ring fence the NHS instead of pruning elsewhere. That decision was nothing to do with the Tories, but it provided Cameron with ammunition thereafter which he's chosen to repeatedly fire.
