He's actually loaned players in from Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle so they aren't too shabby. Wouldn't have been my first choice but certainly wouldn't have been my last. It's a gamble but any manager would have been a gamble, even the likes of Pearson and Moyes. We actually passed Moyes over at a similar stage of his managerial career. I think after the overreaction to our previous managerial appointments, Coppell (good), O'Driscoll (good), Cotterill (bad) people would have learnt their lessons and wait and see before passing any sort of judgement.
According to the WDP he was offered coaching positions with premier clubs not named so give the guy a chance if he can get loan signings from the clubs named above he must have some good contacts and they could be vital in your battle to stay in the championship
I would of thought he would need someone to come in alongside him.......a 'father' figure so to speak !
Serious question, if he saves City then job done, fair shout to him. But if he dont save City and you get relegated, do you think Lansdown will keep LJ for league 1?
Listening to the Radio Bristol this morning I was struck by how much he sounds like his dad! And that Mark Ashton....full of meaningless business speak. You could also hear that the 'Um' was back over south Bristol! Next time you hear Ashton, do an 'Um' count. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03gmrwc.......2:05 You wonder just who appoints managers these days. There's no mention here of the City directors having a say. It doesn't look that clubs do long list, short list....interviews.
Didnt this Ashton bloke say lots of quality managers applied for the City job and that it would be difficult to choose? But then they took several weeks to decide that they dont want any of these so called quality managers. Instead they approached Barnsley for LJ meaning will have to pay compensation and said LJ was always their 1st choice! If thats the case, why take so many weeks to get LJ in the door, wasting the remaining of the transfer window? I smell lies somewhere! To take this long to appoint LJ.... Either it was crap managers who applied for the job and LJ was the best they can get or these so called quality managers took a closer look and didnt fancy it in the end and turned down the job meaning LJ wasnt the 1st choice!
Yes I think he will, I guess if we do get relegated then I think it will depend where we are at Christmas whether he keeps him on. But I've said all season that I think we will be ok. I started to wobble after our defeat to Preston but I've got my belief back now
Didn't Barnsley have a cup semi final maybe city were holding off so as not to disturb the Barnsley preparations for that match
I think you would have been better off with who you had - Pemberton? Has steadied the ship for you. If LJ keeps you up then seriously, fair shout But I think this is a massive massive gamble. As a Rovers fan, I should be feeling over the moon that you have him because I feel getting in LJ could send you down. But I feel sad for a few of you because you had a real chance to stay up and progress with a decent experienced manager and with your stadium too, futures bright. But to me this a 3 step backwards appointment. Im not wumming or anything but im still in shock you went for the cheap option which is the typical Rovers way!
When does a club think of another clubs preparations before deciding to seek their manager? Each club are in it for themselves if you know what I mean!
Cant see how he can be a cheap option when we are paying compensation. Pemberton would have been the cheap option. I wont lie Johnson wouldn't have been my first choice but I do like the bloke. I always felt he was harshly judged as a player and like how he comes across as manager. It may backfire who can tell but I'm willing to give him a go and it may turn out to be a master stroke. That's a beauty of football, you never know what is going to happen. Leicester fans weren't happy when they lost Pearson and got Claudio in but I'm not hearing many complaints now
Just to explain why I said 'cheap option'.... I dont mean the compensation aspect, I mean what you will pay him compared to what you would have been paying Moyes / Pearson / Sherwood etc etc Regarding the rest of your comment, I cant really disagree with any of it. Great post
Rotherham (a relegation rival of City) just appointed Neil Warnock a manager to try and keep them up. Just a reminder, City appointed Lee Johnson to try and keep them up
I cant see your point here. Wouldn't touch Warnock. He's a dinosaur, cant understand the love in certain people have for him. He has just has many failures on his CV as successes. Even though he wasn't my first choice give me Johnson any day of the week over Warnock.
Certainly no love affair from me. I just think Warnocks experience would be more valuable than the lack of experience of Johnson. Ask Rotherham fans who they would rather want. Im guessing they would prefer who they got. I also reckon majority of reds would also prefer Warnock if they have the choice out of him and Johnson. Just my opinion though
So just because he's lived longer makes him a better manager? He's had a lot more failures in his time than Johnson has had Well I follow the club and not the misguided fans that think that Warnock is some sort of Messiah
