    End of the day....

They have sacked a manager who could be classed as 1 of their most successful managers ever (won them a league title and doing the double in the process). My red friend said they have had a lot of bad luck with results and the West Brom 2 City 2 game showed he hadnt lost the dressing room.

Now they are replacing him with a manager with no Championship experience, limited manager experience and maybe his only contact is his dad and his uncle who is a scout!

I wouldnt be happy with this at all!

When Clark became your manager, what experience had he had? Only managed Salisbury in the lower leagues, compared to Mark McGee who was a well known manager.
And fairness he's turned you round a bit now, when just over a year ago loads of you wanted him out, saying he's not experienced enough to get you back in the league.
I wanted McInnes, SoD and didn't want Cotterill, so what do I know, he might be the best thing for us.

The 1st sentance of my comment that you replied to said "he may end up being great."

Using DC as your example really isnt a good example for you to use. We did get relegated with him. Unless you are saying that LJ will take you down too???? ;)

DC had just 8 games to try and save us. Doubt we would have been able to get a decent manager who had experience with just 8 games left where we could get relegated into non league. But yes he did take us straight back up indeed. He took us up because he had experience with the league we were in. He had experience with the players he was signing and who he was coming up against. He also had experience with winning promotion. Since our promotion, he has been building on top of what has been working.

Comparing that to what is going on at City is wrong.

City have lots and lots of games still available and are only just in the relegation zone on goal difference. They have 51 points still to play for and getting a good experience manager who knows that league will easily keep them up. Get in a big name and they could even challenge next season. However, getting in Lee Johnson, who has no experience of the championship and coming in to a relegation dog fight, is a massive massive gamble. City may go down as a result of this appointment. Why risk it? Why waste the fantastic work of last seasons promtion and go back to square 1 again?

I think most City fans will rather want to stay in the championship with an experienced manager who has contacts and know how on how to manage championship players and with the backing of Lansdown, can realistically push next season for prem football. City fans would obviously prefer that to Lee Johnson, who may just send them down but could give them a good season back in league 1. If City had 8 games left and look like they could be going down, LJ could be a great appointment. Getting ready for life in League 1 where he has some experience of and is currently showing he can do it there. But City dont have 8 games left. They have 17 games left = 51 points still available. With the right appointment, they could easily survive and show massive intentions for next season in the process. This will be a crazy appointment.

I personally would rather be in the championship next season with a big name manager who may challenge for the prem over life back down in league 1 with maybe a half good season with Johnson.

Lets say Johnson just keeps them up. In the summer he then tries to sign players. These players will look at him and think they have relegation favourites all of them. Now imagine they had Pearson as manager. The same players who City would be trying to sign may actually think, we can challenge with him as manager. Like I said, this could be a crazy decision by City. It may work out for them but for once, I actually think im talking sense about them <ok>

There is a massive difference between DC situation when he came manager to Lee Johnson if he takes the City job. That is why I am saying you cant compare them both <ok>

A big difference is that we basically have no money and DC was the cheap option. Fingers were crossed
and prayers offered and it's turning out OK.
SL has cash coming out of every orifice and could go out and recruit anyone.....providing of course that
    they want to come !:emoticon-0105-wink:

But there lies the difference, Clark was chucked in the deep end with hardly any games left. It was a gamble but in fairness you was flirting with mid to bottom for years. But you (as much as it pains me to say it ) have come up stronger under his guidance.
Johnson is highly thought of as an young up and coming manager who's gone to two clubs albeit the division below and hauled both to safety only to lose his players at season end twice. So relies on getting in loanees or bargains, one being the stand out player for us Korey Smith and the other being Johnson at PNE.
If I was given the choice I would of gone for Monk or Sherwood both fit the head coach role well. And believe it all not both who could be interviewed this week without the news being informed. LJ needed permission to speak so Barnsley released the first update not us.
But if it happens he will get my support, one being that I never disliked him as a player always thought he was a tidy intelligent player. He stated that it's always been the management side of football, and playing was a means to get to that goal. Rumoured that during summer breaks he went round getting invited to see how the other clubs work in the prem and Europe.
Some fans look at young managers and players lower leagues and turn their noses up, but everyone starts somewhere until someone gives them the chance.
If it don't happen you can see someone like another lower championship team taking a punt and he gets them to the Prem the forums would go into meltdown saying they always wanted him.

I really hope that whoever City employ keeps them in the Championship as I believe it gives us more incentive to do well than if they come down. Bristol is a big city and we should be looking to have a minimum of two championship clubs not one struggling one and a league two club trying to get promotion. It would help if we had the complete backing of the city authorities and not one that specialises in nimbyism

He may well keep you up and be great next season too. Who knows. Could be the next Sir Alex. Without being given the chance, you will never know. He is at Charlton today so looks set to be confirmed as man in charge. Im just saying this is a massive gamble. You have so many games left that you can easily survive but appointing him to me feels like you have given up and preparing for league 1 next season. Personally, I (and I think a lot of reds would feel the same) think an experienced championship manager is needed for you, someone who can bring in big name players. I bet if you had Pearson in charge last summer, you would have got either Gray or that Palace striker (cant remember his name). Again, I could be wrong about him and he could be great. But be honest, how often am I wrong ;)

Hilarious appointment given what's gone on before. Teds not happy at all, but they'll soon change their tune if he keeps them up.

    But that's a big if.

3 points without him as your manager. How many points from his 1st actual game? <whistle>

Stole this from gas guzzler. A Barnsley fan has apparently posted this (presuming posted on otib?)

Hi Everyone, Barnsley fan here. Just thought I'd let you know what to expect from your new Head Coach:

Loans loans & more loans- When he 1st came to Oakwell he made 4 or 5 loan signings which most agreed were necessary. Then in the summer he went and got 7 short term loan signings BEFORE the season had even started which started off a never-ending revolving door of mediocre loan signings up until his departure.

Boring & baffling tactics- Throughout most of his time here he played 1 up top while instructing the midfield & defence to run and pass it around like crabs. A lot of his substitutions were head scratchers too.

Favouritism- No matter how bad or out of form a player is he will just keep persisting & persisting with them if he's mates with them or he signed them.

Fantastic convincing talks & interviews- Don't be fooled by his words!

Good crowd- Always claps the fans and waves when requested.

Just over a month ago he had led us to the rock bottom of League 1 after the worst run since 1955. Without the signing of Hammill we would probably still be there. Like many of our fans I am not bitter but relieved he is finally gone. He would have been sacked in about October if we didn't have to pay him 500k in compo. I am amazed that any club would want him to be honest.

Oldham fans warned us and now I'm warning you. Lee Johnson is a tactically inept ship jumper who can talk himself out of anything.

Good luck this season. You're going to need it.

At least he'll be able to use his contacts to get loan players who can't get into
the first teams at Yeovil, Oldham, Barnsley........Cheltenham! :cheesy:
