Yes and Clattenburg did clearly signal - last one... I thought the next foul would be a yellow though :(

I think that's a possible explanation for why Clattenburg seemed to reach for yellow first and then signalled red. The yellow card was at that point automatic for any foul, and I don't think anyone will dispute that was a foul. So he knew it was at least yellow, started to reach...but then paused to consider the alleged severity of the foul and decided that it was actually red. Maybe the West Ham reaction factored into that change of heart, but maybe not. It is hard to say.

As for players embellishing or outright simulation... while it is cynical to say "Players should go down" I think it is just the reality of the situation. The refs don't have the benefit of slow-motion or instant replay, they don't have the luxury of just simply focusing on the ball 100% of the time. They're in motion, which makes it harder to pick out fine details, etc.

You see what appears to be contact but one guy flies three feet in the air and lands on his head, while another guy appears not to be affected. There's no way that doesn't impact your decision. The only way they can ever fix that is by reviewing the video footage after the game and deciding retroactively whether a player dived or if a no-call or yellow should have been a red.

Just want to mention Yoshida. He's one of the good guys....Koeman mentioned it....he puts in the effort even though he gets few chances, doesn't complain, signs a new contract (apparently Saints players can do this!!) and takes his part when called upon. Yes, he's not one of our 'stars', big teams are not rushing to sign him, but he should be more valued by fans than he is.

Refs can't win. If they reach immediately for a card, they are being too hasty. If they pause and think, they have obviously been influenced by others and haven't the courage of their convictions.

Well, me and the bloke behind me together came up with

    "Maya Yoshida
    He's having a party
    Bring the sushi [his bit]
    Bring the saki [my bit]"

We had a few (fifty or so) people joining in. More games and we'll get it to spread. If for no other reason, that's why Yoshi needs to start more.

However, there were dozens of boo-boys around me just hating him if he wasn't utterly perfect. If he'd done what Cedric did when he made an excellent effort on our goal their brains would have collectively exploded.

Yeah, last year they had Adidas near replica of an 80's kit, Song decided to a step further by adding the daring hemlines of that era. He still seems to have 'em cinched up with safety pins or something.

I understand your point, however from two thirds of the way back in the Kingsland, I could see that Byram was studs up and should have been red. I didn't need the player to go down to know that. No replay, no nothing.

If Clattenburg refs us again this season, then please, for the love of God Ron, do not play Wanyama!

Yes right, he would send Romeu off instead no doubt?

Well, if Wanyama played, he would watch him like a hawk, knowing he's sent him off twice and once more by another referee.

If Vic was to be stupid enough to commit another stupid foul he would deserve to be sent off, however, if he has learned a lesson perhaps he would be more careful. However if he was to politely allow the opposition to pass and score you would be even more on his back.
