Inconsistency in the same game too. West Ham were taking ions with some of their throw ins first half. It took the restlessness from the crowd before Mark gave them the hurry up.

As soon as 10 man saints got a throw in or corner he was telling us to hurry up, when we were not taking any longer than normal.

Very often Referees who have sent a player off, look to even it up for some reason, Clatt had two opportunities and didn't take either, so his attitude is somewhat different to most Officials.

And if I didn't, what you going to do about it? Hmmm. Threatening gestures feel a tad futile on here!

My apologies to Clasie and I promise to never do it again.

Watching on TV, he got nearly all the decisions right. Even the red. He is a quality referee. I've watched in him in a lot of games and he keeps up with play excellently (by far the best of all the PL referees), his decision making is very good and consistently gets the big calls right. He does get some calls wrong, like Byram not being sent off but Bertrand should have gone down. Referees will naturally think a challenge is worse if a player goes down rather than stay on their feet. For Wanyama's red the more times I watch it the more I think it's a red. He lunged in completely out of control which is a red card offence. Doesn't matter about contact, it's about the force and wildness of the challenge.

I'm not going to argue about Vic's red, but with the statement I have highlighted you have destroyed any credibility in your defence of Clattenburg. Please show me the section in the rules of football which states that fouled players are obliged to go down, or roll around on the floor to attract the referee's attention. Premier League referees are paid quite handsomely to administer the rules of the game, not act as judges on Strictly Come Roll in the Mud. Clattenburg had to spot Byram's stamp, that is what he is there for, and no excuses.

Yes, but it's a natural human reaction to think if a player doesn't go down, it's not that bad of a challenge.

    Morning....everyone still happy<diva><diva><diva>

Wanyama was reckless and you can't scythe someone down like that. The degree of injury is irrelevant. He would have been very lucky to get a yellow. Any small doubt is not enough for Saints to risk an appeal. Victor was stupid to do it when there was no imminent danger...not like he was taking one for the team. If he had been warned earlier as some claim, even more stupid.

I like to see that Bertrand didn't make a fuss....I'm proud of my team for playing the game in the right way. And sometimes it means you get your reward in refs believing you....hence, Fonte's invisibility cloak. We were like this before, but Koeman is also a manager that takes things on the chin so fits our style. Would hate to have a whinger like van Gaal and Wenger. Whinging is the fans job:rolleyes:

Notice on Sky that Yoshi trod on his opponent's foot in the penalty area....guess the officials either didn't see it or they decided the ball was going out anyway.

The most pleasing thing about our wins is the strength of the defence. It used to be what we built our success on, but we'd lost our way. Got our mojo back. :)

We're going to continue to differ on this, Tom. I respect your views and accept your thoughts, but I think that he's a ref who plays to the cameras, lets himself be influenced and isn't consistent. He loves himself and considers him bigger than the game. I'd rather come out of a game having hardly noticed the ref than constantly seeing or hearing him.
If he's our best ref, it says little about the rest of them!

I agree, Mark Clattenburg is a decent ref in my opinion although im just joe bloggs on the terraces and no ref. Watching in real time from where i was sat last night big Vics lunge did look pretty wild and he is a big sod once he is in an uncontrolled slide, so i wasnt surprised when he got a red card. Dont agree with your comment that Bertrand should have gone down though, esp from a ref ! Thats a big issue with footballers these days in my book, falling to the ground to win a free kick when they are not inured. Bertrand obviously wasnt hurt and there was no need for him to fall over, so good on him - to do so would just be blatant cheating.
Last night was one of the best Saints wins ive seen, terrific defensive performance with reduced numbers in very bad conditions, and really we should have won by more than 1 had Long or Austin taken their chance on the counter attacks.

Yoshida caught ?Payet's? foot because he suddenly stuck his foot in front of Maya's, an unnatural movement that was obviously designed to get himself tripped over. Clattenburg got that one spot on, as he did most of the decisions yesterday. My problem is his tendency to be influenced by the players, as he seemed to be for Vic's red, and as he certainly was by Bertrand's lack of theatrics.

In the previous post you pointed out there doesn't even need contact, but now you say ref's need broken bones. All fans want is consistency...

I didn't say that at all. Referee's don't feel the contact, they have to go on what they see and it's a natural reaction to think a challenge isn't that bad when the player doesn't even go down.

The vast majority of the nearly 32,000 people at St. Mary's yesterday, plus the millions watching on TV, clearly saw the underside of Byram's boot as he lunged towards Bertrand's foot. How come the one person paid to notice these things failed to do so? If that wasn't a reckless challenge then how was Vic's? As spacedsaint says, all we ask for is consistency.
