NO SINGING IN THE RAIN FOR THE TIGERS It was one of those games. In driving rain, the Tigers went down one nil to a tidy but unspectacular Burnley side. City’s dismal run of form at Turf Moor continues. One change for City, Michael Dawson back in place of the injured Maguire. No place for Akpom in the starting eleven, despite his hat trick against Bury. City endured early pressure from the Clarets, who took the game to the Tigers from the start. A Barton free kick well saved by McGregor was a premonition of what was to come. Burnley were well on top, a Keane header grazing the bar. City’s best chance came from Snodgrass, who volleyed straight at the keeper. Another header from Keane on forty one minutes ensured Burnley finished the half on top. The City faithful expected the usual second half turnaround and for a while it looked possible. The home fans were kept quiet as City gradually began to dominate. A shot from Odubajo brought a good save from the Burnley keeper and Hernandez should have done better with a brave diving header. On seventy six minutes Bruce replaced Hernandez (much to his surprise) and Diame with Oluko and Akpom. It didn't work. A minute later, Barton fizzed in a long range effort, and McGregor palmed it out to a waiting Vokes who snapped it up. And that was that. It always looked like a single goal would do it, and so it proved. Akpom had an immediate impact, forcing a sharp save from the Burnley keeper, and you wondered why he didn't get the nod from Steve Bruce. A disappointing, but not disastrous result. A home draw for Middlesborough ensured City stayed on top, but Burnley are now well in the picture. Another trip to Lancashire next week against Blackburn Rovers. Let’s hope the fans will be singing in the rain next trip. Pack your raincoats!
Hernandez had a couple of presentable chances - if he puts one of them away its a different story. Lets move on and get 3 points at Blackburn next week
Leicester attacked quickly with numbers, they got the ball and stormed up the pitch. Even Wes Morgan ran out with it to start a counter attack. I wasn't at Burnley today but you can bet your anal virginity Hernandez and Diame were left to attack the goal pretty much in isolation whilst the rest held ranks and kept shape ready for when Hernandez and Diame inevitably lost the ball after attempting to attack past 6 defenders on their own.
I didn't go today, but listening to friends who have and to Blunderisde, we never really looked like conceding albeit they had one or two situations. Then we make a change and 30 seconds later BAM!!!! does this manager of ours know that there is nothing in the rule book that says you have to make a change. The twat of a comment 'I thought Abel looked a bit leggy', what a crock.
For anyone who was actually there, what did taking Abel off do to help the goal they scored which sounds like a good save knocked in on the rebound?
Hernandez really should be burying that header , perfect height pacy ball , all he has to do is hit the target he scores , it was probably harder to put it over
Leggy my ****ing arse hes had 2 weeks off Just pick the ****ing team and go for it FFS!!!! It did Bournmouth no harm last year and this come to think of it. Teams that play with the fear of losing NEVER win titles
And its done the team at the top of the premiership no harm either and its not the team thats frightened of losing, its the manager.!!!!
Boro fans will be looking at today as an opportunity missed. It puts more pressure on them to win their game-in-hand. We just need to bounce back and put a great performance in against Blackburn.
Burnley and Wednesday are teams to watch out for - think we will beat Brighton at the KC later this month
Subs didn't effect the goal going in... But how do you fight back when your top scorer has been brought off? You take your top scorer off and everyone knows they're your top scorer, then it looks like you're throwing in the towel. The opposition spot the opportunity and punish us. There was no need.
Just back & you have to wonder what it is with Burnley ? They truly are one of our bogey teams away from home......never really believed there were such things...after all squads of players change so why should previous form make a difference to current form ? I agree that in theory the substitutions should have had no impact, but it does seem to break the rhythm of a game when it happens
we were unlucky today, it could have gone either way, substitutions didn't have any bearing on the goal, in fact Akpom came on and livened it up a bit - Hernandez had a few chances, the header although it was a bit quick for him to do much, the one when the goalie slipped, and the one where the keeper ran out to him and he bottled it and the chance was gone - Brucie picked the right team, we weren't negative, the ref was a bit ****, the conditions were definitely ****, we're still top and it's Blackburn next week, hopefully back to winning ways
