1-0 massively flatters Watford. Brilliant performance in windy conditions and with **** refereeing. Davies motm for me, he was excellent.
The difference between us (and most teams) and SAF ManU is quite subtle. Basically SAF's ManU would have got a couple of penalties and a few more decisions when Watford players seem to throw themselves to the ground. Great result though, far more comfortable than the score suggests.
The defence didn't have a lot to do but it was a much better performance from Wimmer too. He looked very tidy today. 2nd in the league!
That goal encapsulates loads of what is good about this team right now. Confident play out from defence, a never-say-die and useful pass under pressure of the ball going out by Davies, a decent, considered header from Eriksen, great reading of the game and a superb, intelligent touch from Kane, a strong, forward run from Dembele, carrying the ball half way down the pitch, other players bombing forward, laid off to Alli who, within about three silky touches has made the difficult look very easy and then the opposite fullback to the one that sort of started the move, has got way up the pitch and put the ball away. I bloody love this team. I know it might sound like I'm getting carried away but with the recruitment, the way that players know their roles, the team spirit, the improved contribution from almost everyone who was at the club when they arrived and the resulting dominance of almost every match we've played this season - I think we may have the best management set-up at the club in at least 30 years. (And I was utterly baffled by Harry's sacking, thinking it was madness to think we should be aiming for better and frankly I think we may have got very, very lucky at the third time of asking. I guess at least the AVB/Sherwood period was short and thank God Van Gaal wanted a CL club ). And not only is it effective but is also the exact model that is needed for the club at this time. COYS!
BBC has Gomes as motm and they lost the game. Tells the real story. If we can put away City next week... Wow!
Fully deserved the win, luckily the awful refereeing did not cost us any points today. We could and probably should have had 3 or 4 penalties given for rugby tackling, shirt pulling etc. Capoue was also fortunate to not get a second yellow. Can`t grumble too much though as we got the points, we move onto City, I just hope we don`t get a backlash next Sunday.
That may have been as near to total domination as there’s been this year. 26-3 shots. 9-0 on target. 15 - 1 corners. This team doesn’t look half bad--and yet we still came close to drawing, thanks to poor finishing and one excellent and one decent pen shouts not given. Now there’s a nostalgic monument to cheesy seventies Americana. I remember wondering how on earth thirteen year olds from other countries described their level of involvement with the opposite sex in one or two inoffensive words. It was as common across the US as the way to count before rushing the quarterback in touch football, which was one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississipi.
Yes! The touch by Kane, but also Dembele's play to Alli, and above all the pass by ALLI!! Amazing accuracy to get it passed all defender on to Trippier's foot.
