Super sorry that this is not as in depth as usual, been working on a super secrete project (for a massive organisation), which is taking up a lot of my time. Charlton Athletic vs. Bristol City Date: Saturday, 6th February 2016 Kick Off: 3:00pm What a difference one energetic win could make on our survival prospects. Looking at the recent home form of Rotherham United, one could have been forgiven for thinking that come Tuesday night we would have seen ourselves bottom of the Skybet Championship, following on from a weekend of FA Cup fixtures. For now we have managed to avoid that scenario and are currently a point from safety, arguably more with our appalling goal difference. Now we see ourselves in a week entertain a team which itself is surely another six pointer game, and like the previous match anything less than a win would certainly have disastrous consequences on our survival prospects. The last two games under José Riga have proved worthy performances from the woeful ones experienced under Karel Fraeye and the 6 - 0 thrashing at Hull City. From what I have seen Jorge Teixeira is miles better than Naby Sarr and his pairing with Harry Lennon has seen our defence shape up, something that José Riga knew that he had to address as a priority if we had any realistic chance of surviving in this league. Morgan Fox however, still appears to be our weak link, a real shame given that he has been able to put decent performances especially at the beginning of the season. With Vetokele and Makeniok making a decent partnership in the last game, could it be the end of our scoring issues? With transfer deadline day over, we have see the following changes occur in our team: Termination of Vaz Tê contract Termination of Moussa contract Termination of Parzyszek contract Sanogo signed on loan for the rest of the season Fanni signed on loan for the rest of the season The Opposition Bristol City themselves have gone through a few managerial changes this season, as they have recently departed company with Steve Cotterill, who had spent just over two years at the helm, leading them to League One title. During the transfer window they made permanent Richard O'Donnell from Wigan Athletic on a two and a half year contract. Only a point and a position separate the two teams. Current caretaker manager, John Pemberton, is hoping that a trip to The Valley would be a chance to pick up some points and start to move his team towards safety. Whilst there is no permanent manager at the moment, Lee Johnson is currently leading the odds race, but if John Pemberton gets the points the job is surely his. Current Form Our home form is something that can be considered dire, but not as dire as Bristol City's away form. Over the last five games we have accumulated four draws, whereas Bristol City have lost four consecutive away matches. They have only managed to score two goals on their travels conceding on average two goals per game. With our renewed form under José Riga, this looks like form is in our favour. Head-To-Head This will be the eighth encounter between the two teams in the last ten year. The most recent win came on the final day of the 2012/2013 season, the last one that I can remember enjoying after our League One title, where we ran out as 4 - 1 winners, a game which produced a stunning solo from Yann Kermorgant. Bristol City were relegated to League One after the defeat. During this campaign honours were even after Harry Lennon scored our equaliser in extra time to cancel out Nathan Baker's first half goal, a match in which we spent most of under heavy pressure from Bristol City and struggled to get a shot on target. Outcome I'm more confident going into this match off the back of a draw and convincing win against Rotherham United. I have a feeling that come 5pm, we will be, for the first time in a long time out of the relegation zone. I'm predicting off the back of the last win, us to run out with a 3 - 0 performance. Let us hope that the damage that Katrien Meire and Karel Fraeye had inflicted on this club is repairable and does not see us face the drop to League One again. As always, #SupportTheTeam #HateTheRegime. #COYR #COYA
Don't be silly - brilliant as always and appreciate the time you put in For the match - I've selected a draw but think a win is possible. That's right, we might be able to get back to back victories! Both sides know what's at stake, so don't expect it to be pretty. Despite the confidence boosting 4-1 win against Rotherham, the players need to show it wasn't a one off like it was against Wednesday at home under Fraeye. Of corse I have more faith in Riga so the omens are better. I'm going for a 0-0. I imagine a lot of work has gone in to shoring up the defence and Riga will still be trying to gather a balance between that and attack. We scored 4 in the last match but question marks still remain over igor and big Mak.
Issue is draws against teams that are in and around our area, is no good for us. This is the one game that could lift us out of the relegation zone come 4:55pm, and a draw is just another opportunity squandered. We need to win, and hope that Rotherham lose to Bolton, who like us have found some form in the last two games (especially with Rotherham's pitiful away record), and Cardiff to put one over MK Dons. That'll see us in 20th (with Fulham probably losing to Derby) 1 point off of 19th.
Completely agree it's no use. I'm just a bit skeptical last week was a one off. Bristol haven't got a new manager yet (granted permission to talk to Johnson this morning) - so hoping that's a factor that swings in our favour.
I always thought that if we didn't have Douchébag, Lee Johnson would have been a good manager for us. That or Dean Smith. Two good prospects that we missed out on, because they weren't interviewing anyone during the Faeye period.
Not one vote for an opposition victory - can't remember the last time that happened. Probably Blackpool away last season. CARDs protest today will see banners displayed at 19:05 mins - and anytime chants of you want them out are sung. No 5pm protest organised by them. Interesting to see if anyone heads there at 5pm
If there is a protest at 5pm I've got to miss it. I've got my best shirt on and cashmere cardigan, as I'm off out up town, quite possibly for one of them nights I spoke of in Bartram's Bar
Also, as Super eluded to, seems a 50/50 split between draw and a Charlton win. The last time we were all wrong was Sheffield Wednesday at home
We've got our first brizzle win vote. Line up is the same, bar igor who got a knock in training. Lookman starts.
Well that was poor. Whatever led Riga to believe that Ba was a footballer I don't know. Mike Jones record as a referee who will not give a second yellow or a red remains intact and I think Bristol knew it. Whether the penalty was justified I don't know but the fact that it was given on 19.05 may not be a coincidence.
Terrible, terrible performance - Fraeye-esque in its sheer ineptitude. Credit to Bristol City who had clearly done their homework on our home form - attacking threat? - get the ball near to Fox [who was awful today] and success will follow. Score a goal ? - park the bus, Charlton won't create anything. I can't actually remember us creating a proper chance in the entire game- yet more of that horrible, disjointed negative football. I am not sure where we go from here - that was our best 11 minus Diarra and Bauer. Igor is clearly still not fit, we create nothing, and most worrying of all is our defence. Surely that is The End of fuc*ing Fox. I would rather see Naby Sarr playing full back. Why then f**k decided not to organise a protest at 5pm will go down in Charlton folklore - bottom of the league and they urge no protest. We are doomed.
pathetic performance. no creativity at all, just people standing still in a 442. didnt think fox deserved the booo's. he was crap, but we've seen worse this year. i now firmly believe we'll go down. we should have played for a draw in these conditions, you cant be letting those around you take points from you.
come on, be sensible. in a season where we've seen barr, sa, reza, vaz te, watt, moussa... you cant compare fox. he might not be the most gifted but you cant fault his work rate. it just didnt work for him today.
Gutless performance, Big Mak and Cousins seemed the only people up for it, and to be honest, Big Mak is a donkey on the ground, but seemed to win a lot more in the air than usual. My biggest anger today though is directed at CARD, I've been on twitter all afternoon ranting and moaning about it. Just because CARD don't decide to make an official protest, no one shows up..... the chant "We'll be here every week" was shouted at the last two, I show up today and there were no more than 200 people.... that is the 2% Katrien is talking about. After that sort of result there should have been pure hatred spewed towards the directors, the extra police laid out should have been there because they were needed, not just there because they were paid. Today was the day when the protests should have continued and if anything gone up a level, but CARD decided not to do it.... it needs to be constant, there every week and there until Katrien is gone at the very least, we are more than just customers but if we don't show up every time they will treat us just like customers. I'm only 23 and some of you guys have seen us at Selhurst Park as our home ground, I salute the lot of you, this is the first time I have feared for this club, and seeing how pathetic the turn out was today got me angrier than the actual performance out on that pitch today. We need to keep up the protests, have the board aware they aren't wanted, have Murray and Katrien shaking in their boots and not wanting to leave the ground because they are scared of the backlash and abuse they will get. EVERY week that should happen, win, lose, draw, EVERY week. Disgusted with CARD today
