We all tend to love the sports we grew up playing and watching. Completely natural. We also tend to disregard and belittle sports not like our own, how threads like this get started in the first place.
I've mentioned this many times before, but there are a bunch of English ex pats in my area, and they love it here. We've tried our best to get them to move, but no luck. Each and every one has become a fan of our sports, and quite fanatical at that. Don't get me wrong, footy is what they live for, but they've become quite passionate about baseball, american football, basketball and hockey. The Super Bowl party I'll be attending will be full of funny talking creatures who will have strong opinions on every play of the game. As it should be.

It's not that I dislike American football and baseball because they're unfamiliar, I dislike them because I personally find them incredibly tedious as spectator sports. If I only liked sports I grew up with I wouldn't like basketball or ice hockey would I?

Didn't mean it to be quite that literal. Basketball and hockey have a continuous flow to the game, much like football, which is pleasing to the eye. Baseball and american football are games consisting of set pieces entirely, not everyone's cup of tea. No biggie.

I can assure you that if I moved to America I wouldn't enjoy the sports I mentioned any more than I do now. I know at this point which sports I do and don't like. It's not as simple as only liking fast paced sports either, I'm a big fan of snooker for example even the hour long safety exchanges.

I just happen to think American football and baseball are **** sports.

To be honest mate although i was born there we lived in Salem Rd but moved to Town End Farm so that's where i grew up. Remember Hendon Beach very well though, my Granddad used to walk me down to collect washed up coal and i can still smell those pig sties you had to walk past to get to the beach

The worst thing about the Superbowl is the time its on over here! I always miss it these days. I got into American Football at Uni when Channel 4 started showing it.

If ever a sport was misnamed though, this is it!
