My view is that it's football and we have to accept that players will come and go for all sorts reasons. What I have difficulty with is that players who are extremely well paid and not putting in the effort which is commensurate with the rewards they are getting. If there are underlying issues that can't be resolved for whatever reason then its best for all if the player moves on.
The issue with JJ is that he undoubtedly has talent but does he have the right attitude to make the most of it? Its early days at Newcastle and only time will tell.

    Please
Well that's bullocks. He was inconsistent and lazy. Your bitterness towards monks sacking is showing and also clouding your judgement.

How the hell did he do that. Was it committing himself to the club and employing a chef to improve his fitness or was it because he made MOM more than once or was it that he always went to our away fans and thanked them for their support whether we won lost or draw.......He never deserved the **** he got while others were let off scot free.....

Oh behave, he's had a few games after he showed some true passion, he slumped back to his usual lethargic performances all too quickly. I've read a few of your posts and all you do is slate the club. We got 12mil for a player who was inconsistent and a disruptive presence to the whole team. I am a fan, ever since I walked up those steps to the north bank when I was a child. I've seen the club at its worst and still remained true to the club. I belive in the board and their decisions regarding how the club can move forward.

It will be "interesting" to see the Jonjo that plays against us at St. James' Park.

He will either play a blinder and be MoM or he will see the red mist and get himself sent off.

I'm hoping for the latter but fearing the former....<cheers>

There is more room for Shelvey on the English National team than there was on Swansea . Most of the games Shelvey started , kept Britton on the bench .....wasting away his last few seasons of quality worth .I don't think it's any coincidence that our form picked up with the inclusion of Britton and the exclusion of Shelvey , much like the inclusion of Routs and the exclusion of Montero .
Shelvey is a very good player imo , but not for us .Should make his mark with Newcastle , although with all the changes they made with 15 or so games left it is a risk.No matter the quality you bring in , gel time takes awhile .
I thought and still think Shelvey's departure is a win , win , win.....for Shelvey , us and Newcastle . A good rest of his career awaits him imo .

I agree it should be a win win win - if he gets his attitude right

You dont have to like a player to appreciate his talent and jonjo has bags of it for a player so young and already an England international....

Sometimes "If " is the biggest word in the English language glam .I agree though , it's more in his hands than any team past , present and future ....bit of a shame that guality can be ruled by ego

Have a guess who wrote this very recently

"Shelvey Has an ability to pass. As shown on his debut. This player is essentially going to be our Yaya Toure. Will play all the time, but will be the detriment of our side. Will play deep, like Yaya, and can't defend. Jonjo can't defend, is not quick enough to hold or close a midfield position. Shelvey's talent to this side is the passing range he has, but when he's under pressure he's no better than Dummett. Poor decisions all the time. Paul Scholes played his position at 36 and had an appreciation of keeping the ball - 5 yards or 50 yards. Shelvey always is looking for the harder pass. Saivet looks for the quickest available past..."

No one can deny his talent but you have to watch the game live for 90 minutes and not highlights on TV to realise how bad his attitude is. Probably one of the worst I can remember in all my years watching the Swans.

It can't be Dai - it's got some big words. <laugh>

My guess is a Toon fan who saw what we were seeing towards the end. Shelvey can turn a game and win you points for sure as he did for us last season but for me the display at Oxford was the last straw. Coupled with the fact he'd been disruptive and was unhappy here it was a no-brainer to let him go. £12M not too shabby either.

Yes it was , the signs are already apparent to those who see beyond the word "potential"or " talent "

Now we have lost a young talented player who was good enough for England's U16,U18 U21(captain) and England first team Who will be the next player to put all the blame on ? I know Rangel had a bad game against WBA and he is playing tomorrow, Lets all blame him now when things go wrong..<ok> <laugh>

So why is it that the only club that wanted him were below us in the league?

An international player you say. Why yes he is, but he is not fit to lace Leons' boots who is not deemed worthy of ever having been an international player. It doesn't matter if you are Lionel Messi. If you can't be ars*d then what is the point of turning down a £7 million profit. Virtually paid for our new striker, who put more effort in one half of a game than I had seen from Shelvey in months. What is it with your bromance with Shelvey.

No one is blaming any single person for the position we find ourselves in. Players and ex manager alike share the responsibility. There was no passion in the way we played, passing was poor, defending was abysmal and our strikers weren't up to scratch. At some point monk lost the squad, he made silly decisions and turned down help when it was offered. I was absolutely thrilled when monk was appointed, on paper it made the most sense given his affection for the club and huws history at launching careers. Unfortunately things turned sour and changes had to be made. The only people who seem to feel the irk of the fans are those with unlimited potential but fail to show any sort of passion. Shelvey was one of those players. He lost his way and started putting himself before the club. We got good money for him and he seems to be happy.

I'm sorry but I've said this before. These guys are on more in a week than my son (who went to uni for 5 years and can now call himself doctor) will earn in a year. Our fans are always ready to make a player who gives his all and makes a go of it a demigod here.

However, if there is any hint of whinging or not trying very hard a player will quickly realise that our fans, and those up and down the country, will turn on them. That's what happened with Shelvey and he asked for it - and this is coming from one of his greatest supporters on this forum.

For Shelvey to then bitch about his so-called 'treatment' here when it was the opportunities he was given at Swansea that gave him his recent England caps is more than a bit rich. I know I sound a bit bitter but I hope he lands on his fat arse. :emoticon-0172-mooni
