Kent Online reports scans have confirmed the worst fears and Birchall may be out until the New Year! he needs to wear a knee brace after the op for 8 wks n only then can start rehabilitation! Hessenthaler is thinking about a loan striker, do we need one? Thoughts? I think we do need someone in with some goals in him as what we have at mo is untested :)

bringing a loan striker in now is a good idea for 4 reasons.

a it gives the guy a chance to play with our guys and get his match fitness up as its likely to be a player who doesnt get many games else where.

b it creates competition for places as there wouldnt be many players pushing for that starting role without another player.

c it means if we are unlucky and get another injury the replacement is already in place. d with s.payne only having 1 year left on his contract and it not looking likely that hes going force his way through and earn an extension (just my opinion atm) then it would be good to maybe try and find a replacement for him for next season and who knows we may find another gem like cody and be able to snap him up once we hopefully get promoted

I'd say another striker should be brought in permanently as since this injury, the penny has dropped in that we are lacking up front behind the first choice strikers in Birchall and Kedwell. Although with all this money that appeared out of no where to get these signings I'm surprised that we didn't go for Cody for another season on loan.

Kent News has no more ides than the rest of us how long Birch will be out. They just lift their stories off of the message boards. Birch has the op on tuesday, and the specialist will give an idea then, according to Hess. As he said, every injury is different, and certainly he will need an knee brace for about 8 weeks. After that it will depend on his rehab. This is a good report on gillsconnect
    http://www.gillsconnect.com/s/Gills..._BIRCHALL_BE_PLAYING_AGAIN_BEFORE_EASTER.html.

What is certain is that we will need a replacement, and as far as a coach goes,I have heard (possibly unreliable source) that we could be getting Nicky Forster, who could also be a standin striker. Whether He would be instead of a loan striker I don't know.

Pretty sure Nicky Forster hung up his boots after getting the caretaker job at Brentford last season?

Wonder if we could tempt him out of retirement. Fantastic striker, even at his ripe old age.

I'm very disappointed and surprised on the BBC report regarding Hessy's alleged comments:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/g/gillingham/9547978.stm?

I can only say that I have only seen ONE comment in regards to this and it was on the unofficial Dover site, I hasten to add other Dover fans were quick to voice their concerns on the individuals take of the situation and have wished Birchall a speedy recovery.

Maybe there has been more since, where I don't know, what I do know is there has been an lot of positive stuff said about Birchall on here.

Just a shame that the positive message board comments from many sites cannot also get a mention, are the media just trying to stir up trouble between our two clubs?

brb do you read the articles on Kent Online?

The people on there who post comments is where the bitterness and all the negativity is around Kent football, not just Gillingham.

theres a phrase we had at my american football team at uni- "let the haters hate". cos at the end of the day you cant keep everyone happy and if there is someone out there who is happy adam got injured then he is a sick individual and i hope adam knows that 99.9% of people are wishing him the best and a speedy recovery

Agreed - The Kentonline comments are often moronic and should largely remain unread. Some of the comments do make you wonder about the mental capabilities of the contributors. Just hope this forum doesn't get infected in the same way.

Some of the posts lately on there have been :headbang:

But yeah that's one of the nice things about moving to Not 606, there isn't the bitterness that was there on bbc606. In a way it was good for someone from the club to recognise it and say something about it like Hess did but on the other hand it's annoying that you have to be negative to be recognised.

long may the friendly banter on this forum continue, lets not get taken in by some of our so called(or not)supporters comments or wind ups(on other forums)!
that stuff just doesn't deserve a reply!

i for one am looking forward to the new season and will get behind the team home & away, i feel very positive!!!

as long as we can get that illusive striker & keeper or left winger...would be nice alround!

    UTG!!!
