Seriously WTF is this all about?

I had not even heard of this term until just now. This has to be one of the most laughable terms I have heard in my life.

Do squaddies seriously think that us sane rational people are envious of them? Envious of what exactly? The ability to not be able to think for one's self and only be able to obey orders?

Dev used the term and really I expected better from someone that seems logical and level headed. Perhaps he was looking for an argument which is not really like him either.

Any clues as to "army envy"?

Do you often fantasise about Dev in his army uniform?

Actually a decent sized minority of them do. It's usually the same ones that get huge tattoos and claim to be serving queen and country when in reality they just wanted the opportunity to legally carry out acts of violence on other human beings.

Most soldiers are fine of course and are nothing like this.

Wouldn't it be easier for them just to play rugby - or join one of the increasing number of football teams where the ability to deliberately amim an opponent for fun seems to be a prerequisite of signing.

That would require a modicum of talent and brain power.

I have a few friends in the army and everytime they start talking about the Army everyone roles their eyes. The way they bark on about it, you would think that if they weren't in it, they would have nothing to talk about.

Not once have I or any of my friends been envious of them though.

All based on the indivdual really though isn't it? I find Dev absolutely spot on but there were a few on the old forum who thought that they should command respect purely because they used to be in the army. Like I say I've never found him like that. I know current and former soldiers - some are proper cnuts and others are great mates.
