The "Hollywood" pass was, most certainly, one of the many and varied skills that Hoddle had in his locker, along with dribbling, superb first-touch, volleying, and dead-ball delivery. Even if his passing was the only skill in his locker, you can hardly call him a hoof-merchant, the principle trademark of whom is the tendency to blindly launch the ball toward goal in the vague hope that it will land in a dangerous spot near to the opponent's goal at the feet of one of his own players. Hoddle never hoofed the ball.
who ever thought spurs would be ACTUAL title contenders. never gonna get a better chance than this season
... where have I claimed that we are the first team to play on the counter? ... but we have had less possession (stat wise) than the opposition in apparently all but one match ... and yet sit top of the pile (currently) ... hence the comment ... and to put it in context - the point was made in response to HIAG's rather blinkered intonation that our style might not be that 'pretty' or 'entertaining' ... tiki-taka is becomng somewhat passe these days methinks ...
We'll see whether tika-taka's passe next season, I think. Possession's never been the only way to win a game, though. Ranieri's an Italian and a former defender. It's hardly surprising that he's got you playing a style that doesn't depend on keeping the ball. Is it pretty or entertaining? Not for most of the game, no. Certainly not for the opposition. Does it work? Yep.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion ... but I think it safe to say that you are in a minority and possibly still smarting from the 3 points lost at WHL ... here's what the rest of the country are more likely thinking http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35480812
What part of that had anyone unconnected to Leicester hailing your football, rather than your performances? Lots of statements backing up exactly what I've been saying for ages, though. You're a counter-attacking side. How is that even vaguely controversial? You've got players that are capable of doing some very watchable things in a moment, but your overall style can be very dull. Sitting back and letting the other side have possession, which often ends in no end product as you're good at defending. That's hardly a swashbuckling, end-to-end, Roy of the Rovers goal-fest, is it? It doesn't have to be. It has no influence on your points total. When Pulis had Stoke playing well and winning games, they were often bloody ugly and overstepped the mark on occasion. Their fans also seemed to get upset by people pointing this out. Not everyone has to play like Barcelona, but the teams don't have to be viewed in the same way as them, either.
.. ok you win ..we have been wholly lacking in entertainment but purely effective in terms of performance..as that well known ex.-Leicester player Pat Nevin makes clear ..
Where did he say anything at all about entertainment? He literally talks about structure and effectiveness. Articles that you're quoting yourself aren't supporting you. It might be time to give up.
.. carry on nit picking ... top of the league, wonderfully exciting and entertaining, playing some terrific football. .. but not as good as Spurs .. bless
When did I say any of that? Stop crying because everyone doesn't think that you play total football. It's embarrassing.
...it's your Spud blinkers that are embarrassing Pollu ..must be your ring still stinging from our smash and.grab .. in denial. ..seek therapy ..or Prep H ..
Claims his team are entertaining, while hailing a "smash and grab" win! You're quoting links that point out exactly what I'm saying. You're the one wearing blinkers. Why you can't just enjoy your success while accepting that you play counter-attacking football is beyond me. There's no trophy for being the most entertaining side.
Chelsea won the title last year playing dull football, and United have been dull all season - so dull football can win you matches but not many friends. Leicester have played counter attack football but IMO they aren't dull. Spurs and Arsenal play an expansive game which is entertaining but doesn't always get the desired result
Polly, you and I are never likely to agree on anything ...and I worry that you are losing any credibility along with the plot due to your small mindedness and begrudging of anything football wise non-Spurs centric... So I'll leave it after this ... what is entertainment in football terms ... for me it's all about goals and exciting players .. players that can go past people and demonstrate incredible skill ... that's the type of team that real football fans want to watch and transcends club tribalism ... this season Leicester City have certainty satisfied that criteria for most ... as these stats support ... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/jamie-vardy-riyad-mahrez-been-7303092 There always be the killjoys, the small minded, the begrudging who can't get past blinkered views and can't cope with being bettered by another club so prefer to look for excuses and stereotypical insults ... like long ball football, negative approach etc etc ... but the reality is very different ... just for you Polly ... a cameo of how our formulaic long ball tactics took Liverpool apart last night ... http://www.not606.com/threads/team-v-liverpool.322266/page-4#post-8878146
Let me try to settle this once and for all, Fossil... Do Spurs play better football than Leicester? Of course we do, none would doubt that. Is Leicester's chip-and-rush style of play effective? Clearly it is, for now. I'm glad we cleared that up, mate. It's certainly taken a weight off my mind.
