Good Morning Everyone, There were two players that Evans narrowly missed out on during the closing stages of the transfer window. They were Lafferty and Kike. It now looks probable that Lafferty will join Leeds on a 93 day emergency loan next week. Thoughts? Evans is annoyed their their £300,000 offer for Barnsley hitman Sam Winnall was made public. Evans was critical of Barnsley’s reaction to United’s bid and frustrated that news of it was made public. “There’s been some insulting comments come out of South Yorkshire about our bid,” he said. “We thought it was in confidence. Nothing to do with the player, he’s a decent player, but I’m not going to talk about him any more. We’ll not be going back for him.”
Morning Kissa, still not in the same category at the Wendies strikers Foriestri or Hooper. We have to compete, especially with our neighbours.
Morning all.. If we rate Lafferty as good enough to play we should have signed him, loan with a view to buy is just PR to keep fans happy.
Really? Loan first buy later makes more sense, we've had enough wasters in the past that money was wasted on.
couldnt agree more Ristac. Hes clearly out of favour at Norwich right now. And if we wanted and rated Winnall we could have put a half decent bid in for him, with the Byram money. I would have been chuffed if we could have got any of those three over the line to be honest
Morning all. Cant agree on the Lafferty thing. Loan to buy is only way to go. He cant get near an awful Norwich team free falling back to the Championship. Only reason theyre reluctant to loan him is hes useless. Hed likely cost us 3m or thereabouts and it would be a scandalous decision to risk that amount of cash on him. If he wants to join us, hell find a way to prove himself over next three months but personally I believe hes not the solution to our striking problems. Id far rather sign a young League 1 striker for a third of what some cast off from a relegation threatened pl team would cost and likely a third of the wage as well. In my opinion, Lafferty could end up being another Morrisson
That's the thing, I'm not keen on buying them just for the sake of it, Lafferty and Kike are immobile hoofball players. Hooper and Foresteiri are footballers, I know which I would have preferred.....
Morning all I'd take Lafferty on a loan to buy. We've had to much crap coming in to the squad especially people who thought they were the **** and was Gary McSheffrey. If Lafferty proves himself then buy him same with Carayol. We've still got the opportunity to get a young striker in the summer. Ant is going so we can bring in some one we want in May/June time
I think I posted before, if Winnall is a 20 goal a season striker we could have put in a bid for the asking price, we paid double for Wood and he isn't a 20 goal a season striker. If Winnall isn't prolific then we shouldn't be looking at him. The problem with 'try before you buy' is the quality or lack of it with those we are trying. If you are confident in the player there is no need to loan and try them first, if you are not confident in their ability don't sign them. How many players do we actually sign after a loan period? How many of last seasons did we sign, Granddi Ngoyi, Adryan Tavares, Edgar Çani, Brian Montenegro, Žan Benedičič, Dario Del Fabro - It is a hit and miss approach hoping you can find a 'bargain' As for Lafferty, if he isn't good enough to sign then why loan him, I am not taking sides as in is he or isn't he good enough but if he is as bad as Eire and a few others say, what are our coaches thinking of even considering a loan move. It's flawed anyway, look at Bamba, start of this season he was one we all wanted, he was on loan here last year, joins us and can't make the team (rightly so). Adeyemi - We all said snap him up, get his permanent signature after a handful of games and now he can't make the first team. Teams loan players out for either experience or they are crap. We seem to sign the loan players that are unwanted. I would much prefer us to be signing the likes of Bamford on loan for a season with no chance of buying at the end of it...
Sound points as ever Mr Ristac. I would add that, love him or hate him, the idea of a Barton would certainly help for the significant reason that they are they type that will not allow other players to let their standards drop once they sign permanently i.e. they are leaders. We have and have had, very few recently. Before the better informed posters tell me, I am well aware he is at Burnley, I am simply saying the merits of a Barton are for more than they simply bring in terms of their own playing ability.
Some posters don't like Lafferty because of his Rangers connection(so opinion not based on footballing ability), some people say he has a bad attitude. But he's going to the Euros with N. Ireland so there must be something about him. I've only seen him (on TV) playing for Rangers and he looked lively, but was prone to diving. At this stage of the season it's a no-brainer if he joins on loan. If it doesn't work out we don't sign him.
Rangers thing doesn't bother me. I was equally critical of mC Geady ex Celt when we were linked with him. Will be interesting to see Laffertys contribution at euros or mc feasts for that matter. Maybe Norwich will be able to get an inflated price for him after the summer
Agree with everything Ristac said above. The thing about Lafferty is, is he good enough to get us promotion next season? I don't know much about him but out of 12 seasons he has only ever scored more than 10 goals twice. I cannot understand how he could possibly be a signing that would push us up the league.
Lee Chapman was a similar type of player,no big success anywhere else, not seen much of him to be honest but watched him score a couple for N Ireland and I thought maybe.Would certainly get into them, rough them up a bit and we do need that up front far too nice at present.
Were you talking about Eire ? never would have guessed that. Does Eire have a slight bias against Rangers then.
