  5. I didn't say the way we'd gone about business was right, it's not. It's been shockingly bad. I said the policy didn't stop us from signing quality players.

Have a heart. The dude spent the weekend scrolling through 2000 pages in an unsuccessful attempt to find a quote of one of us actually saying 'Next year is our year'.

I think it does, or at least consistently.

Can you name the quality players they have signed?

I'll give you a minimum 5 poor ones in return.

What doesn't help is Ayre who is ensuring we don't get value for money.

Chimpanzees. Ham and Enos. Simian, but not monkeys.

Yes, I'm even more tedious over manned space travel than I am over the Suarez panel. :emoticon-0114-dull:

Yes. But not for winning the league. Next year is our year for our new stand. And invading Poland.

  15. But it's not the age restriction that prevents us signing them. It's the wage structure and pissing about rather than getting the deal done, not to mention targeting home grown / based players which are known for being well over priced.

As for naming quality player signed during their reign that fit the policy, I couldn't name five true quality players signed by them full stop! This is the list of players who FSG have signed since arriving...

    2010/11...
Andy Carroll - £35m from Newcastle
Luis Suarez - £22.8m from Ajax

    2011/12...
Stewart Downing - £20m from Aston Villa
Jordan Henderson - £16m from Sunderland
Charlie Adam - £9m from Blackpool
Sebastian Coates - £7m from Nacional
Jose Enrique - £6.5m from Newcastle
Joao Carlos Teixeria - £1m from Sporting CP
Craig Bellamy – Free from Manchester City
    Doni - Free from Roma

    2012/13...
Joe Allen - £15m from Swansea
Daniel Sturridge - £12m from Chelsea
Fabio Borini - £10.5m from Roma
Philippe Coutinho - £8.5m from Inter Milan
Oussama Assaidi - £2.4m from Heerenveen
Samed Yesil - £1m from Bayer Leverkusen
Nuri Sahin - Loan from Real Madrid

    2013/14...
Mamadou Sakho - £18m from PSG
Iago Aspas - £7.2m from Celta Vigo
Simon Mignolet - £9m from Sunderland
Luis Alberto - £6.8m from Sevilla
Tiago Ilori - £7m from Sporting CP
Kolo Toure – Free from Manchester City
Victor Moses - Loan from Chelsea
Aly Cissokho - Loan from Valencia

    2014/15...
Adam Lallana – £25m from Southampton
Dejan Lovren - £20m from Southampton
Lazar Markovic - £20m from Benfica
Mario Balotelli - £16m from AC Milan
Alberto Moreno - £12m from Sevilla
Divock Origi - £10m from Lille
Emre Can - £10m from Bayer Leverkusen
Rickie Lambert - £4m from Southampton
Javier Manquillo - Loan from Atletico Madrid

    2015/16...
Christian Benteke - £32.5m from Aston Villa
Roberto Firmino - £28.7m from Hoffenheim
Nathaniel Clyne - £12.5m from Southampton
Joe Gomes - £3.5m from Charlton
Taiwo Awoniyi - £0.7m from Imperial Academy
    Allan - £0.5m from Internacional
Danny Ings – Free from Burnley
James Milner – Free from Manchester City
Adam Bogdan – Free from Bolton
Marko Grujic - £5.1m from Red Star Belgrade
Steven Caulker - Loan from QPR

At a push... Suarez, Studge, Coutinho, Hendo, Sakho, Can and Clyne from that list. That's seven (15.6%) from forty-five signing!

A few other may come good in time such as Gomez, Moreno, Firmino and Ings etc. Of course there are others such as Allan and Grujic who haven't had a chance yet.

Being generous and saying they will all come good, that's still only thirteen (28.9%) from forty-five <laugh>

Overall, it's simply not good enough.

    Fixed.

The expensive players that we've bought have, by and large, flopped. The mid-range or cheap experienced players have by and large either flopped or been average. The young players haven't really developed (yet). Maybe it's not just buying the wrong players (though that's certainly an issue), but using potentially good players badly once they're here?

Have you been using Treble's anti-irony pills?

Btw, so were loads of the Battle of Britain fighter pilots, and my daughter's child-minder's dad was a Polish commando in WWII. Her name was Marysia. Very shaggable, I'd imagine (but sadly couldn't confirm).

  20. Fair comments and I'd say the expensive signings flopping is what's causing the damage. Take Carroll, Downing, Benteke, Balotelli, etc out of the equation and it looks a lot better. Still no where near good enough but a lot better all the same.

Suarez, Sakho, Hendo and Firmino were all big signings though, they've not flopped. granted, it's early days for the latter.
