Calm down Fair result on chances but obviously disappointing to have let it slip at the end. Paloschi a massive plus and we really need to see him in an attacking formation now. He's worth 100 Gomis' even on one half's display.
He's got to learn, and fast, this isn't the Italian league. Shutting up shop on a one nil is playing with fire. Far too conservative to start and we were forced into a change that should have reflected the starting line up. Lots to worry about. Paloschi was the big plus. Looked excellent to me.
With Bournemouth winning, we have dropped to 16th, 3 ahead of Norwich and 5 away from the drop zone. Let's hope Everton start winning at Goodison by thumping Newcastle tomorrow night!
Still early days for Guido but it looks a promising situation and 7 points from 9 is not to be sniffed at especially with two of those away
Well I thought we would get a draw, and fair play to WBA, on the balance of play they deserved a draw, I'm happy we are getting points every game at the minute, and it feels so good to have a natural striker at last............
Fabianski had a blinder, Paloschi was menacing. Ki looked like he gave a **** for the first time in awhile (hope he recovers) routs was touch and go. Gylfi was OK but we need to work on our set pieces. I'll be honest this feels like a defeat but plenty of positives.
Good news: - Paloschi looks a handful. Quick, hard pressing, holds the ball up, persistent, stays onside. Everything we need in a striker. Seems to link with Siggy and Routledge well already. A goal against Crystal Palace would set him right up, but I'd settle for an assist. - We looked sharp with the ball. Considering that Pulis sides are solid and disciplined, we actually carved them open quite a few times. Siggy, Ayew, Paloschi and Routledge looked good playing together and had Paloschi been on from the start, we'd have been 2 up at half time I reckon. - Guidolin can see that, although a good defender, Taylor just isn't offering going forward enough. I think the final straw was when Taylor let Rondon get away from him down the wing - he was pulled minutes after. If you offer little going forward and can't defend a big, lumbering striker on the wing, get off. Naughton showed Taylor how it's done going forward, and even threw in an unbelievable last ditch block too. Personally, I thought we played ok. We've played better, but importantly, we looked like a Swansea side. Easy on the eye, creating chances, and occasionally faffing around in the box...come on, you know it wouldn't be us without a bit of that We should have won that game, but I'm happy to see us with a bit of identity again and playing with freedom. I didn't feel we went especially defensive until Amat came on - up until that point we were still carving open chances. While West Brom had a few chances, I didn't feel like that they had a solid foothold in the game and their chances were coming from either mistakes or short moments of good work from individuals - as a team they offered little. However, 1-1 it finished so there we go. Good game, I'm gutted we lost the win in that fashion (don't understand how we cope well with the inswinging corners all night and then have so much trouble and concede from a high lofted corner...), but good to see us continuing to play well, if not brilliantly yet.
Threw away 3 points there against a team that others would have battered playing like they did. No improvement as far as i could see except maybe our new striker who imo should have started the game. Never mind at least its another point we desperately need towards safety but we need to play a lot better which i hope we can...
Ha, nah. We were so close to those three points and having the lead snatched away at the dying moments was galling.
Plenty of positives, a point further away from relegation. We have a striker at last, goals will come. Could have won but could have drawn against Everton. 4 points from two away games is nothing to be downhearted by. We ain't going down lads
Need to get shots on target.Shooting was awful tonight. Better corners needed. But,I can't ever remember a Swans team that took good corners.
A definite negative for me tonight was Ayew's shooting. On another night he'd have had at least one (the one from Routledge's cross where he chested and volleyed fresh air). But he had some other shooting opportunities too. He's usually so reliable with his shooting, but after almost air-kicking a clearance early in the first half, he seemed to lose his confidence and bearings when striking the ball - unusual for such an experienced player. Not sure it's so much better corners needed as better players in the box to get on the end of them. Probably a bit of both. Ashley doesn't head on target often enough, and Fernandez and Ayew are our only other players of note when it comes to heading. Cork and Siggy (when in there) aren't reknowned for heading, and that leaves players like Rangel, Taylor, Routledge, Ki... Against a team as big as West Brom we could have Bergkamp swinging in corners for us but our team would struggle to get on the end of them.
Overall we played ok. Losing Ki was huge, our passing game suffered after that. Barrow and Montero stayed on the bench - I think either would have carved west Brom open. Cruel last min goal, but another precious away premiership point.
An away point is not to be sniffed at, we are now on 26 points, and just 14 points to go to the magic 40 points. Most thought that Naughton was coming on for Rangel, and Taylor looked surprised when he was being called off, and not before time, though he did play well first half, but getting creamed by a fat lump requires sorting, he offers very little going forward, I said the other week, he plays with fear, and Franco will not put up with that, Monk would never have thought to have put Naughton on the LB position, clearly Franco is already knowing his players better than Monk............
Yes, at the time I thought that removing Taylor instead of the pretty dreadful slug-pulling-a-concrete-block that's Rangel was a bad move but on reflection I can see why he did it.
