So my right shoulder has been hurting like hell for a few days and the pain is going down my arm as well, I can't get a bloody doctors appointment until next Tuesday, went to boots and spoke to one of the pharmacists who reckons it sounds like a trapped nerve and recommended some paracetamol and codeine, it helps a little bit with the pain but not much, can anyone here recommend anything that I can buy over the counter ?

If you're local you can ring the Direct line Physio service, arrange a phone appt and usually get seen within a week. The local number for South of Tyne is 0191 4041024.

The Codine and Paracetamol will help(I take Co-codamol or Co-dydramol instead because it's got both Codine and Paracetamol in the same tablet so less pills to force down) but I'd introduce some anti inflammatory, they'll just help you feel more comfortable.

Ibuprofen gel 10% through the day for direct relief. Good strong quick relief at that, and at night Wild Tiger Balm(orange one not white), lasts way longer than the Ibuprofen, it will work like a deep heat long into the night. Better than Deep heat in my opinion. These will just help while you're waiting for pills to kick in or as they're wearing of but you can't take your next pills less.

You can also take Ibuprofen tablets with Codine and Paracetamol. My lady's wisdom tooth nerve is playing up and she's on 2 Paramol(Para+Codine) 4 times a day and 400mg of Ibuprofen 3 times a day. That's for severe nerve pain. Talk this through with your chemist though and don't take any cold and flu meds while on these. Not even a lemsip.

This is all over the counter Medication. <ok>

    Omg that's my problem
    Op in March
Been like this since October I had the same problem 2014 it took over a year but it got better.
    I agrivated it in October.
If you have the same problem the pain at times is unbearable.
I'm on gabapentien it helps a little.
Over the counter drudg will not be strong enough
Remmember what I have said if it is a trapped nerve the pain will be excruciating
And I'm not kidding good luck keep me informed

    What have you been doing?

Sounds like a rotator cuff tear to me, the pain down the arm is a giveaway.

Just off to the match so don't have long here... but if you have torn your rotator cuff there's little you can do but rest and do some simple movements to help restore it eventually.

If it's a pinched nerve try gently massaging the area around your upper spine, and add some deep heat to the area, that's likely where the pain is originating from.

I put it down to travelling home from holiday last week on the plane, it was half empty so I had a row of 4 seats to myself and could lie down, maybe I laid down in a funny way I dunno.
I had a really bad back a year and a half ago and the doc gave me some diazepam which were great but I've ran out of them now and as I said cant see the doc until next Tuesday and am hoping it will be OK by then..
I've got some of that tiger balm which I forgot I had , I will try that now.

Do not pay money for a chiropractor or osteopath. They do **** all but take your money. pain killers and if it persists see a physio.

If this is a pinched nerve, then it means your muscles have not settled exactly where they should sit naturally.

The best thing to do is to put a jacket on and go for a run, start to use your muscles so that they contract and retract, heat up and start to relax. A bath will maybe help temporarily but you're not using your muscles, so you'll probably end up just loosening a knot that'll tighten right back up again when your temperature drops back to normal out of the bath.

Massage the back of the shoulder, around the top of the spine, most nerve issues up top originate from the spine, when your central or peripheral nervous system is slightly misaligned.

Rowing motions, (Seated rows if you've got a gym) require a lot of upper back muscles to squeeze and move, so I'd recommend that.

If it's a pinched nerve, then it's not an injury, so just blast out some exercise until your body naturally restores order.

If it's a torn rotator cuff, then you'll probably try to do a seated row and end up crying like a girl and running home, but at least you'll know <ok>

I went to a highly recommended Chiropractor and a highly recommended osteopath which cost me a lot of money, and both done absolutely sod all for my trapped sciatic nerve...It was only when I eventually got to see an NHS physio that my problem got sorted..

I couldn't lie flat on my back to get through my scan 19/01/2016 the scan results whic I go emediately indicates disc damage to 6/7 vertebrae
Only three weeks previous over the Christmas period I could not bend down to put my socks on.the pain was excruciating.
At the moment I am lieing with five pillows and still have severe pain from my fingers to my back.
Even while on holiday last week I had the five pillows.
The first time I had this problem was March 2014 but it was compelled with a frozen shoulder.it eventually got better it's in sep2015
The low and behold in October 2015 I was fitting a washer and caused the same problem
This time I'm working my arm <and its in pain> to prevent frozen shoulder
I hope bizarre gets well soon.
