Just a quick one to see peoples thoughts. (Mods feel free to merge if you see fit) I was thinking last night if you had offered me Doumbia or Berahino at £20+ mil it would have been a tough choice as Doumbia has proven he can score goals against the best teams in the CL and has experience but Berahino is a young upcoming English forward who has scored goals in the league and I really would have struggled to pick one from the other. BUT Doumbia on loan with an option at SEVEN million quid or £25-30 mil for Berahino is a no brainier for me. Obviously I would have been having a breakdown if we'd got both but to be honest I'm happy with Doumbia and £25 mil saved for a few extras in the summer, maybe even go back in for Berahino at a lesser price with only 12 months left on his contract. IF If it was a choice of one or the other at the prices above who would you have gone for?
Easy choice if it was my money! Its not my money, but in the short term and to keep us up, my choice is Doumbia, i am really of the opinion that he could have the same effect Cisse had when he first arrived. Berahino doesnt look overly fit at the moment, but would have been the better option when building a team to compete over the long term.
Both were required, however ill give you the right answer Berahino is 21 ish? The other guy is probably 40 Berhino is proven in this league and will sell for profit or get most back
As I don't care what we pay for players, I'll Berahino. I just think for all he is a ****, he has something about him. he has shown he can score goals in this country and he reminds me of Cole/Defoe at that age. I think he is just about to mature and when he does his game will go up a level or three. I think being proven counts for a lot personally.
I voted Berahino for the same reasons as Mitro - it's not my money! Fully behind Doumbia now though. He might be a pensioner, but he's our pensioner!
Have to say Doomboy. It may not be our money but Berahino isn't worth £25M based on his record. Doomboy isn't proven in the PL but does appear to be a goalscorer if given the chance and is definitely worth the potential £7M that he is available for.
I like Berahino, he seems pretty good. But he's no World beater. I'm struggling to see how West Brom valued him at more than £20m to be honest; he's another with potential. I think the last thing we really needed right now was yet more potential, and I was never convinced he desperately wanted to come. This kid thinks he's already made it, has nothing to prove, whereas Doumbia has done it in Europe's "B" leagues and really struggled when he got a shot in an "A" league; I think he'll be hungrier to make an immediate impact. Also the loan vs the purchase makes a lot more sense. All of which is a moot point - we have Doumbia, end of story.
Get twatted! He's a young Darren Bent and you know it. A moderately pacey toe-poke finisher who can score goals at this level and will do, but is utterly spent by 28 and contributes **** all to the team. Defoe is way better than Berahino ever will be, and he may as well have a zimmer!
Well, according to Schteve, our new striker isn't even going to be ready to start a match for at least 3 games. Just what we need with time rapidly running out on our survival chances.
Hmm. That's not clever. Rhodes at 9m and Afobe at 10m seem infinitely better deals than either to be honest.
And the masterful Schteve is also twittering on about how the team will start doing better and picking up more points once the new signings gel. Doesn't he realise that he's already driven us so far down the road towards relegation that there is literally no time left to wait for them to gel? He'll be coming out with a few peaches like 'judge the new squad in 10 games time' next. Beggars belief. He may be more pleasant than Pardew but he's just as annoying.
And some excerpts on our new wonder striker: "The main concern regarding Doumbia is his fitness. Throughout the years, he has been extremely fragile, missing countless games due to various injuries. Ankle, thigh and back problems seem to keep mounting at a very alarming rate. And according to sources at CSKA, Doumbia barely trained at all during his loan spell from Roma at the beginning of the season; kept complaining at different minor injuries and only took part in the games themselves. That was possible because coach Leonid Slutsky and most of his teammates have known the Ivorian for years. There was a phenomenal mutual understanding between the striker and his team-mates, which enabled him to perform without actually training with the team. Even so, his form dipped significantly towards the end of 2015, and Doumbia has failed to find the net since October." "Links to Fenerbahce and Chinese clubs fell through because the player failed to negotiate personal terms with potential suitors. It was clear that he prefered playing without training in Moscow, whereas there was always danger of training without playing elsewhere." http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...ews/seydou-doumbia-good-enough-score-10824931 Sounds brilliant - not to mention very professional. Not gambling with our survival at all.
Better than no one but I think I said something about needing guys who could hit the ground running. Still a good window. We have loads of midfielders at least. We'll be able to look pretty, then concede loads and score none.
