Off Topic Dad's Army film set in Brid

I remember they had Flamborough for some of the beach scenes, from when they was reporting on the actual filming, and also the North Yorks Railway was used as well.

I have spent quite a few months telling the Aussies to look out for the film so they can see Gods own country, so it had better be good...

Bet he's someone who pretty much did the opposite of what I suggested. Comparing it to the original is always going to be a bad idea.

 

It shatters your confidence in his judgement a bit when the reviewer thinks Mrs Rumpole was an off screen character. Is that 13 I hear chiming?

 

Is that a joke? I can't find reference to a Mrs Rumpole.

 

That's because the Guardian has edited it out. It originally compared mrs mainwearing's invisibility to that of Mrs Rumpole who wasn't invisible at all. I imagine comments on the grauniad website pointed this out with some vigour.

 

Google "She who must be obeyed". If you dare.

 

Ha! I use that one quite often, but 'er indoors always gives me the evil eye (a la Rumpole -- no grave accent on 'ere!)

Having now waded through the Guardian comments, some speculated that the reviewer had confused "she wmbo" with "er indoors" who was also invisible. So all references went, leaving my comment on here hanging.

For the sake of completeness Rumpole was quoting Rider Haggard's pot boiler "She" .

My initial mention of clocks striking 13 was the observation that hearing that has two effects. You now know it is wrong, but it also casts doubt on all that has gone before.

Following the unacknowledged edit, striking 13 now calls to mind the first line of "1984". Winston Smith's job was literally rewriting history, something I would have thought the Guardian was against.

This wouldn't have been possible in hard copy press. Be warned! This instance was trivial but other uses might not be.

Just add a French keyboard to your iPad from Settings. I do that for Spanish in both iOS and Android.
