In other news, Paul Kantner of the fabulous Jefferson Airplane died yesterday. By an eerie coincidence Signe Anderson, the Airplane's original vocalist, also died yesterday. Both were 74. RIP Paul and Signe
Nice, although as a pedant I have to point out that that song was of course sung by Signe's successor Grace Slick. Here's the first Airplane album "Takes Off" which was the only one with Signe on main vocals:
Oh blast.... I only knew them because of my old man and I certainly didn't know who sang on what tracks
Had best feed line ever. My sister-in-law said she was tired after dropping her son off at college in Tipperary. Not surprised, I said, It's a long way to Tipperary. I know it was wrong of me to be so predictable, but some things just have to be said.
Saw them at the first (1968) IOW festival where they topped the Bill. Also if I remember rightly Paul Kanter co wrote 'Wooden Ships' with Steve Stills and David Crosby recorded by CS+N on their first Album, surely the Hippy Anthem. It would be on my desert island list.
Brilliant Fran... you'll be scared to know we must be a like. In 2010, we were travelling to Ireland and taking mother-in-law with us to see her family. We were planning the trip with a map and she was pointing out which routes we should take and towns to go via. Now being the mother-in-law, she would say something was white if I said it was black and when she said about taking one route, she mentioned Tipperary and I couldn't resist. I said that I wasn't sure and she kept arguing that her proposed route was better. This lasted a good two or three minutes and in the end I just said, "look, I don't know how to tell you this, but it's a long way....." She punched me.
Just been to book a flight on Aer Lingus to Ireland. I planned to only take hand luggage, but according to their website, their cabin luggage limit is only 7 kg. The bastards....I travel light and could probably make 10 kg, but 7!!!! I do get the point because some people seem to take the mick, but really.
Aye, all the front runners among the Republican party are pretty hard core, Trump is just the loudest and bluntest of the lot. You have to scroll down all the way to Carly Fiorina to find what appears be even a somewhat moderate candidate. I choose to take this as good news personally. As long the Republican party insists on offering up its most hardcore lunatics as candidates it will scare off a huge percentage of moderate and neutral voters. So, good luck to the Trump campaign in all its deranged glory.
Read an article today that said Europeans only see the weirdo, but Trump has an interesting manifesto. He has plans to simplify the tax system and to raise allowances which will mean that half of Americans will pay zero tax. This will resonate with us...he is against little companies paying more tax than the giants, so plans to claw back tax from those with off shore companies. Also intends to tax Chinese steel to save the American steel industry. Now I know all things have unforeseen consequences, but it does show why he may appeal to the electorate.
David Beckham walked past an old man and a paramedic waiting for an ambulance...then came back with hot drinks for them. Sometimes the little kindnesses are the best. The paramedic said it was nice to get some appreciation having been attacked by two patients recently.

Interesting. Did you get any sign of Storm Henry on the IOW ? Nothing here that I noticed. We've got it so easy in Southampton, it's almost embarrassing.
Biggest winners from the two caucuses in the US last night were Bernie Sanders, who despite all of Clinton's organisation, managed to virtually tie, and Marco Rubio, who is basically the attractive face of the establishment wing of the Republican Party. Iowa is full of evangelical nutters, so he did very well. He is a son of immigrants, and very appealing to swing voters and moderates. I predict Cruz, and Trump will fade soon. Rubio to win the republican race, and hopefully Sanders gets the dem nod.
Bloody hell. Nobody reported me offering hot drinks and warmth to the guy who broke down outside my house!
