That was daft though a chelsea strip signed by JT would have netted a tidy sum on Ebay. I would have cashed in. Especially if you are raising money for charities
It depends if he'd worn it, which in this case he hadn't, it was just a Chelsea shirt which he'd signed. He'd also personalised it so it wasn't worth much to anyone else. To be fair it wasn't used to clean the bogs. It was used to clean the kitchen. Or it was framed and added to the collection in the meeting room! You'd be surprised at how relatively worthless signed shirts like that are nowadays as they are so common. A signed George Best or Stanley Matthews shirt worn by the player will be worth a lot as they are rare and, sadly, both players have passed away. Modern players hand out signed shirts that they haven't worn like confetti. I once had a few shandies at a charity do and bid the reserve price for a signed shirt (not Manchester United!) in a silent auction. I assumed I would be outbid and even if I wasn't I'd be able to trade the shirt for a profit. I "won". Mrs Stan demanded an explanation when the shirt was delivered and I assured her it was an astute investment. I was relieved a few weeks later to sell it on for exactly what I'd paid for it. £250. A lot of aggro to achieve **** all.
If I was a footballer I'd be a right prick too so fair play to Terry. On a much smaller budget I like shagging women, driving nice cars and generally doing what I want in life. Why should a footballer be any different cos a bunch of fully grown men chant his name in a crowd?
In his prime, he was one of the best defenders in the world, what a player he was for us, he has to be one of Fergie's top 10 signings of all time as well.
Vidic was one of the instrumental players that helped us get back to the top of the game, as we'd been struggling for a few years. Vidic may not have been the Rolls Royce of a defender that Rio was but he made up for it in other areas. He was more intelligent and live to danger, he was braver, better in the air, and most importantly a better leader. Rio needed that type of player alongside him to bring the best out of him. I think Vidic helped Rio overcome his big weakness which was going to sleep in games. Once Vidic was alongside him Rio would get the kick up the arse he needed to keep his focus. That's why I disagree with all the nonsense that Rio was the better player of the 2, as whilst Rio had a ridiculous amount of talent, he didn't have the leadership qualities nor was he as natural a defender as Vidic was. I know if I had a choice between the 2 I'd have Vidic all day long
Would agree with this, the reason they were such a good partnership was because they complimented each others skill sets, same as Terry and Carvalho. Carvalho and Rio had pace and were better on the ball JT and Vidic were natural defenders, read the game better and were good in the air. The two sets complimented each other perfectly and neither of the single defenders would have been as good without the other.
Agree to a point, but by that comparison Rio and Terry should have been a great partnership for England. I never really got the impression that they complimented each other all that well. Maybe it was because they weren't all that friendly off the field.
Check JT and Rio's defensive record for England when playing together.....it was actually pretty awesome.
Yeah in qualifiers against minnows, It's easy to look good then. In the major tournaments they weren't so great.
That wasn't JT and Rio's faults tho. At least not exclusively. So many players who were awesome at club level didn't match that level with England, look at Rooney's goal scoring record in tournaments for example. Lampard and Gerrard also failed to match the level they reach at club level too
In fact, out of the England players of that generation, I would say the only ones who were great at both club and international level were Ashley Cole, JT, Rio and Joe Cole. (Infact Joe was probably better for England than he was in the PL) Scholes, Beckham and Shearer were also good for England in the previous generation, whilst the rest sucked.
