And supposedly straight into their squad for tomorrow's game when we were led to believe he hasn't been training with the first team due to a setback in his injury.
All the signs are that we are trying to sign a striker which usually means we don't get our first choice but end up with a surprise signing. Where's Levy? Is he in the UK?
once up on a time, I would have shared your optimism Spurf. But now that we have a policy which largely promotes youth academy players, or cheap youth from elsewhere, I don't see us finding someone that fits that category on deadline day. And I certainly don't see us spending £20m+ on a foreign striker.
I'm not optimistic Roo just trying to make sense of the situation. We don't have to spend 20 million in foreign parts either, in many ways a 3 - 6 million youngster is more likely.
And to be honest how often do they actually work out? Even if you look at other clubs, how many strikers bought from abroad have been even a medium term success? Even someone like Giroud at Arsenal provokes split opinions amongst their own fans. Hell, even Costa was looking like a one season wonder and the less said about Falcoa the better. Would we have been better served by keeping the Lee Bernard's or the Coulthirst's rather than spunking millions on Rebrov and Bobby S? I didn't see much of Kane before he suddenly exploded into life but what I did see was a young man who was trying his socks off but looked so far away from being a leading Premier League striker. Is their a lad at the club that Poch is quietly confident in that could step up if Kane is out of contention? Probably not to be honest and I'm sure we will just wing it as usual. Having said that apparently there is Premiership interest in Jordan Rhodes...... would be totally out of the blue and so un-Levy like.
Update front page with Pritchard loan to West Brom. I know another striker is needed but I feel kind of relaxed about us not getting anyone in. Will probably be raging when Kane pulls a hamstring in the opening minutes of the Norwich match!
I’m still not sure who we could possibly get at striker who would actually help, and think the most sensible thing to rest Kane is to play four forwards with Alli as a false nine. I’d like to have Dembélé, but don’t think he would have any impact this year. I don’t like Berahino, certainly not for 25 million. The only thing I object to is watching Spurs flap uselessly at targets. I don’t know why, really. It is part of a pattern of activity which resulted in an absolutely fantastic window last time. But didn’t we do business early then, for once? I’d like a good young player or two, preferably a CB. On second thought, a young DM would be great. Someone exactly like Stambouli would be perfect.
