"Norwich City manager Alex Neil is confident of getting a deal to bring Ebou Adams from Dartford done before tonight’s deadline but insists he is one for the future. Neil went on to confirm the defender will not feature in his plans for the remainder of this season." Urgh.
Press Conference going on now for tomorrow's match. Sion move fell through as Laffs turned down personal terms. AN says "all quiet on players out front"..."the majority of our stuff is done"..."The lad at Dartford is one we hope to get done today". Paddy Davitt's summary: "AN tells me Mulumbu and Bologna news to him. Ditto Whitts and Reading." Not much indication of last day deals except Adams from Dartford. Easy to spread rumours on Twitter.
Sounds like it will be another un-exciting transfer day for us. At least we got a few in this window.
Ah, the madness of the last day of the transfer window. Clubs are "swooping" and the transfer window will "slam" shut at 11pm. I'm sure if I slam my window it will break.
Sorry, but I'm still totally bewildered as to why we spend time and money scouting and buying "ones for the future"? Thomson, McGrandles, Ebou Adams, Ben Godfrey. Surely with what's at stake we'd be better focusing on the 'here and now' rather than plan ahead 3,4 or 5 years? The nearest we've had for years in terms of players who might make the cut at senior level are all out on season long loans, as in the Murphy twins. Or am I just short-sighted / impatient / greedy?
None of those players will get near the first team for 3+ seasons. I really don't understand it either.
Does my noodle in! 'Snapped up', swooped, 'Done deal' and 'slams shut' And in terms of NCFC "snapping up" or "swooping for" Steven Naismith, total bollocks, as negotiations have been ongoing since we tried to get him last summer!
Likewise - they might if we were in a lower league (please dear God forbid) but the PL is too big a leap for them and I doubt if any of our young uns (including the Murphys) will get first team action while we remain a Premier League club.
Exactly! That sort of attitude has worked for Bolton, Coventry, QPR, Fulham, Portsmouth etc etc so why shouldn't it work for us.
IMO the failure to build for the future is what has held our club back for years. These young players cost around £100,000 and if any of them make it that is multiplied by at least 10 or 20 times. It's also an indication that AN is building the 'dynasty' he talked about when he came in. The Academy upgrade will take time to make a difference but that will also contribute. Year long loans are the best way for young players to get real experience. Some may make it others won't, but we do need to invest in the future. As OCF and 1950 say, we also have to allow for the possibility of relegation.
AN just said he doubt there will be any other signings today, but wouldn't rule it out completely. Looks like our deadline day is a 19 year old Dartford lad who has only made 4 appearances.
This made me smile. Jamie Weir @jamiecweir DONE DEAL: COSTA TO NORWICH. Six lattes have moved to the #NCFC car park for a fee of £14.55 #SkyDeadlineDay please log in to view this image
I can see the sense in picking up promising youngsters, it certainly makes sense long term and I hope each and every one of them makes us look really stupid by breaking into the first team in years to come. But, we know our scouting resources are thin, and with the riches on offer for Premier League survival, I'd have hoped it made more sense this season to focus on first team options. Unless these signings are the result of Neil Adams' new role? I'd assumed he was keeping an eye on our existing talent out on loan, but perhaps scouting non-league players is part of his remit too? Didn't Dartford give us Cody MacDonald in return for organising a pre-season friendly against them? The money involved in these deals is negligible, so I'm not worried about that, it's whether it's the best use of our resources.
Forgive my disgust, but I cannot stand 'Transfer Deadline Day™'. I'll be avoiding the whole circus of it all.

I wouldn't be against maybe one more defensive-minded player coming in but I'd be happy if the window shut now. EDIT: This new guy, the youngster seems to be joining us on an 18 month deal. Seems very peculiar if he is 'one for the future'.
