He has stumped up the cash though only to be burnt by others poor choices! I can see why he might be reticent to spend cash going forward. Like MA he has surrounded himself with the wrong people in my opinion.
Saviet In Thauvin out, that's trading **** for **** if you ask me. You do know you've got the second worst defence in the league don't you marra? It's more than just bad protection. It's a lack of quality i reckon. You've only the lad you've signed in the summer I'd say would significantly improve our dreadful defence. Maybe Janmatt and even he is a million miles from being complete. Apart from that I wouldn't take a single one of your defenders. It would just be replacing ****e with ****e.

Third worst . Both Norwich and yourselves have conceded more. Mbemba and a currently off form Janmaat would improve your defence. In fact, they and PVA are the only back line players of any quality in the North East! Ok I will put it to you this way. How does your defence stack up with and without Cattermole? Imagine if you had Colback doing that job instead.....! That is the crux of my point. A left back and a CB is definitely required. I have stated this several times (probably not to you) however a ball playing midfielder and a "protector" is too. Also, we need a striker. If we had a decent striker, our defensive woes would not be flagged up quite so much (they would still be there but less of an issue) and we would probably have 5 or 6 more points. In truth, I have no idea if we will stay up or not irrespective of whatever signings we make. I can only hope.....
He's only responding to my comment on their board mate! He is one of the posters on here who's opinions on these things I value quite a lot.
The costs are hard to scale to be honest. With the new tv deal it does seem likely that average players are going to cost more money in coming seasons and it was rumoured before the summer that Ashley was going to start splashing out whilst the figures quoted still seemed like a lot (the impression we were given was around the £50m mark for each of the next few windows). We are one of the few clubs in the league who have been putting forward good figures but our playing staff has been getting progressively worse. I'm not sure how prolific he is really, the 22 goals in 88 games is misleading as it includes his first season when he got 5 goals in 32 games and looked like potential rather than clinical. He's only really had one full good season in which he got a goal every 2 and a half games - Andy Carroll had done less and went for more a number of years ago. British, some potential, etc and all monetary reasoning goes out of the window. We need a natural goalscorer, if we had Defoe even we'd be 5-10 points better off by now. Our defence (and defensive record) for the season has been shaky but we haven't lost by more than one goal for over 10 games - most of them have been tight and we've spurned chances. Our defence seems to have improved under McClaren after a very, very shaky start. Still only have 2 good defenders though and we're all amazed we've spent so much without improving it at all.

I hear where you're coming from but it depends what is being said and whether there's merit in it in my eyes. If we were mid-table and Sunderland fans were calling out our team from a relegation place (as has happened in recent seasons) then I would respond politely but point out that they weren't coming from a position of strength. At the moment we are consistently playing below the level we need to survive. Either we are being managed incorrectly, our team aren't very good, we're simply low on morale/ethic or we're very unlucky. I think we all know it's one of the first two... (or both).
I mean fourth worst attack(missed villa hiding at the bottom there), apologies/ I count teams on the same as one. As stats do. there are two teams with second worst defence, two teams with third worst. they can be second and third because it's the same. 4th worst attack and 3rd defence(Missed norwich) Regardles it's ****. If Somb doesn't like it he knows where to go.
