I just spotted this from 'United for Newcastle'. Needless to say, I'd be absolutely furious if Mike Ashley did this.

The sign on the roof of the Gallowgate end alone is shambolic, but this next move would be unforgivable!

This is old news surely. Why whinge over milk spilt and cleaned up years ago!? its still is and forever will be St James' Park. Doesnt matter what the sign says, and if it brings in more revenue well then what the hey! Lets go wild!

That is a disgrace if true, although I think (hope) It's just bollocks. I don't believe Mike is that stupid but if he is then enough is enough for me like!

I highly doubt it will happen. Even Mike would realise it would be like putting a bounty over his own head.

Wouldnt like to be him if he did....

Surprised it didn't include: "Friend of the stars, best mates of the Krays and all round self serving media junkie who wants to extend his 15 minutes of fame says...

It would be a joke to remove the Newcastle United sign. Its a symbol of St James' Park and its what you see when you walk out the tunnel. A sports direct sign isn't going to scare people is it? Anyone got a big ladder? I'd gladly rip it off.

Of course it isn't bringing any revenue! Mike Ashley is just sticking his tacky Sports Direct logo anywhere he can find space. He doesn't have to pay for it because he owns the club and stadium.

The sign should be protected, it's an iconic part of the club. It's almost like de-facing the Cottage at Fulham's ground.

I am starting to believe that he is turning our club effectively into a battle of wills.....

yes but the point of it being advertisement for his company. more money for him cant be a bad thing for anyone. theres never a good thing going on at St James'. possibly the most depressing club anyone could support

Obviously won't bring any money to us. His advertising of Sports Direct puts more money in his pocket at Sports Direct, not NUFC. We will never see him spend more than £5m for a player ever again.

It will not bring in any revenue at all. In terms of advertisement it will bring in increased revenue for Sports Direct, but he won't pay NUFC anything in order to advertise his company. This is similar to the football shirts. He charges £35 at his company and £50 at the club shop. This is so a large chunk of the revenue goes through his personal business so it makes our turnover look weaker, therefore giving him excuses to not spend money as he doesn't use any of his personal fortune to fund our club.

  17. This is what i mean when i respond to people to say "it's Mike Ashley's money and he can do what he wants with it". If he's going to make money off adverts on OUR beloved ground, he should invest it in some ****ing new players!!!!

He uses what ever we make on transfers to pay expenses and fees so he doesn't have to spend his own cash on it, and it saves him spending the money he makes from these ****ty advertisements and the TV and Ticket money.

Do you think he is going to spend any of his personal money on NUFC? I don't.

Could we create a fan petition or something to block this from happening and clearly pointing out what will happen to Mike if he goes through with this?

Won't get us anywhere unfortunately. The only way we can hit him is by not going to games and we all know that won't happen.
