So so sad. Grew to love him as a broadcaster, although I never took to him as a DJ...he was wonderfully wicked but nice, there never was any side to him...he came over as a truly lovely person.
I loved his last series going round Britain with the Taxi driver Mason McQueen examining and eating Britains food heritage; it was a lovely kind proper BBC program, that informed and made you feel happy and warm inside.
Terry will be really missed, an institution and legend.
(Note to self.....there is never as long left as you think there is)
One important effect he had especially in the late seventies and eighties was of presenting to the wider British public the counterbalancing face of the overwhelming majority of Irish people when the Provos were doing their thing. There very few, if any, positive attributes in the media at the time associated with the Irish.
A wonderful human being, how much joy have we had from him over the years, his commentary on the Eurovision Song Contest never failed to crack me up.
God bless you Terry and thank you
