I think Can is a good player. He's been deployed incorrectly by both Rodgers and Klopp.

Schneiderlin has been a big disappointment so far. I was assured by my Saints supporting in-laws that we'd signed a gem.

Danny Murphy was waxing lyrical about Carrick yesterday, he is very much a footballer's footballer, and I think when fit he has to play even if it contravenes the hallowed laws of the philosophy.

When midfielders don't whack in goals like Lampard, Scholes, Gerrard and grab headlines they don't get the plaudits they deserve, Carrick is a very good player

Carrick is a solid professional. The kind that gets overlooked by most fans who seem to equate ball-juggling skills with footballing quality. All teams have them and they often get overlooked in favour of the "inhos" .
Having said that Danny is a bit of a berk- he was waxing lyrical over Rooney because he was slightly less **** than usual.

Fergie always selected Carrick when fit. It's always surprised me that so many fans, England managers, journalists etc failed to pick up on that.

This is a good way of looking at it.

    Carrick keeps it simple

    ..............

For me if you look at say scholes. He had technique, passing and shooting... but he couldn't tackle for ****
His best skill imo was his brain. He knew where his next pass was before he ever got the ball and he move the ball.

It makes it look simple but it's so far over what others can do.

I look at henderson, can, Lucas et Al and shake my head when they take 5 touches or just knock it back where it came from.

This is why I shake my head at Moreno. I feel bad picking on the lad but he's a good example. He has talent and enthusiasm but seemingly not much game awareness.
I've used the word intelligence before, but that's probably not quite right. Intelligence, like talent, can be neither bought nor taught- and I'm hoping there's something in him that can be developed to complement his natural ability and turn him into a good solid player.

Barry is another example of that.

When you watch him every week you appreciate what he brings to the team

He's got the ability like Carrick, to win the ball make half a yard in a congested midfield and lay the ball off without fuss.

Intelligent players also read the game better, they use their experience and game intelligence to take up positions were they can either receive or intercept.

Yeah some guys make it look easy and some make it look very hard.

Enrique and Moreno are cut from the same cloth. Sevilla were delighted to get shut really.

There's lots of players we've had who just make it look easy. Hamann wasn't to bad, alonso was completely under rated by some of our fans and still is.

    And he's a dirty ****.

His legs are going but his head is getting him there.

Martinez knows he can't replace that kind of player

He never had any pace in his youth, so his game has always relied on the ability to create space in the tightest of situations. I think that's why he's lasted so well, plus he's a great pro.

You're right, he's going to be virtually impossible to replace. He plays every game, as Martinez knows he's the fulcrum of the side.

What we need (and the mancs too) is a leader in the field who could lead by example, command the respect of the players and drive the team when needed, like falling behind or needing a goal at the last minute.

We had Gerrard and when he retired, there was really no one who was good enough to take over that mantle. Henderson is clearly not good enough for that responsibility. Can ? Coutinho? Lucas who is coming to the end of his career? We need to get a top class player (in the £40m-50m bracket) who would stand out as the indisputed leader. At the moment they are almost all at the same level.

The search for a true captain must start in earnest.

So Spurs get a lucky break when Colchester's two centre backs collide and have to be substituted at the same time, one straight to A & E.

I'm glad you popped up. Donga is used a pretty derogatory term to describe United on the United board. I know you'll be offended by that so please have a word. There's a good girl Paige.

Not sure where you get the impression that Sevilla were happy to get rid of Moreno?

    Hamann, Mascherano, Alonso, Sissoko, Gerrard.

We were once blessed with a world class central midfield.

Can is the only one who will develop into a quality player. He's our best CM and by some distance - which is very concerning because he is still raw.

You've missed sevilla putting him on there and playing the game then. They had a fee wanted and we're quite happy to move him once we paid it. I think in the end we left it and they then took less later in the window.

They need the money usually and we're quite happy.

Sure can is raw but he'd want to start listening cos while Klopp likes him he won't continue to like him if he wont just pass the thing and carries it 10 yards to then play a 5 yard pass

To be fair, he's only just turned 23 and its the first time he's played in CM for a sustained period in over a year.

He's been one of our best performers since Klopp joined - think he's a bit tired as his last few performances have been below par.

Agree about the dwelling - he needs to play quicker. Does a lot of good work then ruins it.

Sevilla are always happy to sell their players. They are a club that is built on buying players in cheaply and moving them on for large fees. Alves, Negredo, Moreno, Rakitic, Ramos, Navas etc.
