Oh dear, that's pretty embarrassing - fancy not recognising it as my ex's sister had it for a short while a few years ago. We even had a big get together for a 30th at the back....!
....and, for those of a Folkie disposition, there was the Troubador Club in Clifton.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Troubadour_Club Went there a few times with a mate with an acoustic guitar....cool man......
Got to be honest, I haven't been to this venue for probably getting on 3 decades. Ironically, I think that possibly the last time MAY have been when we got back from having won the Freight Rover at Wembley for the first time in 1986 as it was a friend's birthday do that night, we had a proper celebration and I got very pissed and some bird gave me a MASSIVE hickey which resulted in severe stick for a couple of weeks..! I have to say though that having just looked at the line-up, I might well have to get some of the gang back together have a 35 year re-union of the gig by The Undertones which to me, was still the best live gig I have ever experienced for atmosphere. EDIT:- Just looked through the rest of the line-up. ****, I am definitely going... Sham 69 Wilko Johnson (he's still alive..?!!! - last I heard, he had cancer and a year to live 2 years ago...) Stiff Little Fingers..!! The Stranglers...!!! Billy Ocean...
Still no pics of the Mendip Gate I haven't been able to find any on the net. Very much part of my growing up years.
Saw Wilko 3 or so years ago at The Fleece just before his terminal diagnosis. He did farewell tours in places like Japan. But one surgeon believed an operation could cure him although it would be very risky. In between he had a Number 1 album with Roger Daltry called Going Back Home which is brilliant. He had the op, and after a close shave with death and many months recuperating he is playing again. There is a documentary called The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson which was on Sky Arts recently. Its one of the best pieces of television I have ever seen. If you're a Wilko fan and get the chance to see it you wont be disappointed.
A friend of mine had worked on getting a date with this gorgeous bird and arranged to meet her at the Ship on Redcliffe Hill . Unfortunately she went to the Ship Cathay which was up the road and run by ex City stalwart Dennis Roberts. She was not impressed
Wasn't it originally developed by NASA or Boeing or someone like that ? I can remember when it used to have the word Rocket on the can ?
Great invention called Google search Just to confirm your memory is still ok WD-40 was developed in 1953 by Norman Larsen,[2] founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, in San Diego, California. 'WD-40' is abbreviated from the term 'Water Displacement, 40th formula', suggesting it was the result of Larsen's 40th attempt to create the product.[1] The spray, composed of various hydrocarbons, was originally designed to be used by Convair to protect the outer skin and, more importantly, the paper-thin balloon tanks of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.[3][4] These stainless steel fuel tanks were so fragile that when empty they had to be kept inflated with nitrogen to prevent them from collapsing. WD-40 was later found to have many household uses[1] and was made available to consumers in San Diego in 1958.[3]
